Hello imgur, today's tool is a memory summoned by @ThatWierdOne's suggestion of Bulk Rename Utility: Advanced Renamer. When managing large batches of similar files having a tool to help you name them in a format that's useful for you can be an invaluable time saver.

Bulk Rename Utility is only available on Windows
Advanced Renamer is available on Windows an Mac

Neither are available in any package manager that I've found

For Linux, the Rename terminal command or the Bulk Rename utility part of the Thunar package if you prefer a GUI.

does this do any more than a simple batch file would be able to do?

I guess that depends on your ability to batch. This will do metadata as well, but it's not the main feature. Personally I like the ability to see the change before committing it.

I've used parts of them with mouse without borders, but I've never used the suite as a complete package. Looking at them now I may be playing with them soon on my laptop. It's one of those things I've been told about before and I keep forgetting about it.

I only occasionally make use of it. Primarily to resize photos from my hi-res camera and make them more storable and 'sendable.' But the PowerRename function IS pretty nice. And it's got a few other 'toys.' Enjoy.
