Hello imgur, the tool of the day is Krita.
As with the previous days, it's free, but it is still powerful.
Krita is a digital art tool that can be compared to Photoshop and GIMP, and I'm not knowledgeable as an artist to make a useful comparison between the three. What I can say is Adobe's aggressive terms of use in addition to its subscription model have generally deterred me from it. On the other hand GIMP, by comparison to Krita, can be difficult to just pick up and start using. If you need something more powerful than paint but easy to pick up, check Krita out.
It's available on nearly all systems through Winget, apt, snap, and brew, with the caveat that it is not available on Windows ARM or x32 processors. I can't vouch for different architectures on Linux and mac's unfortunately.

krita is only for painting, gimp is for photo manipulation. both are very weak in the others category. Photoshop and affinity photo are designed for both

I use paint.net which is a very layman's version of krita / photoshop. It's not very capable, but a lot more than MS paint and easy to use.

There’s a lot of YouTube tutorials for GIMP, probably Krita too.

The few times I’ve used Gimp it didn’t seem too bad, but to be fair, it wasn’t for anything difficult, just some resizing and image conversions to grayscale.
