If there is someone that you love in your life, tell them often. You'll never know when it will be the last time.

goodbye

I lost my dad in 2018 and I still message his number to tell him important life things and that I love him. I don't know what I'll do when a stranger messages me back, especially if they're horrible

My brother and I always parted with a hug and say how much we loved one another. We did this for every phonecall, too. So when died suddenly he knew how much I loved him. And I knew he knew. Miss you always, your baby brother.

I tell my wife every morning that I love her, and the last words out of our mouths at night are "I love you". We never go to sleep on an argument, and if one of us leaves the house without the other, we say it again then, too.

My 87 year-old Mom FaceTimes me almost every day and I love it! What a great time to be alive

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This was the last text I got from by bf. He died the next day. I am glad he died knowing I loved him.

I am SO glad my parents are still alive. One day they won't be and I will have to deal with that, but for now I can see their faces and hear their voices.

This is why I always tell my wife I love her before I leave the house / drive home from work / go out into this uncertain and unpredictable world / etc. I want her last memory of me to be a positive one.

I work in an icu. I do this to my husband all the time. “JUST IN CASE I DIE!!!”

my brother is in the hospital for emergency hernia surgery. it's routine and I'm sure he'll be fine, but not having heard from him this morning, it's.... distracting. thanks @op

I keep my big sister's pictures in the gallery so every time I post a pic I have to scroll and see her again.

I lost a good friend in a car accident 19 years ago, and even though I don't believe in ghosts, spirits, or an afterlife, I sent him messages on AIM for a few weeks, just to tell him a few things I wanted him to know. It helped me process everything.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah I did this for well over a year, thinking my friend has relapsed an ODed. Turns out he got mad over something stupid and instead of telling me and talking about it he went radio silent for the entire time.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

So... they're no longer your friend, right? Because that's incredibly toxic.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I cussed him out, told him to seek therapy, and cut him off.

My dad and I had a secret whistle to locate one another. A sound no bird made. A week or so after he passed I was out in a park and heard it. I know he's still around, just in a different way, or dimension, or whatever.

He was an amazing guy, a NASA engineer, just in case you've never read his story here. /gallery/i51zvPa His story is NASA's story.

That was a fine read. Looks like his 100th birthday is sneaking up!

Last text from my mom I didn't even receive because there was a lack of service in the hospital. A 'failed to send' at the bottom.
Was only after she passed and I checked her phone that I saw it.

Jesus, I'm so sorry.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did this with my late best friend's discord account, We chatted every day for the past 10 years. Then she was gone.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I texted my girlfriends phone for 4 months after she passed. It helped. I still have our entire text chain.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It may not be popular but I did this after my exe and I broke up. She is alive but my messages didn’t send since I blocked her after she chose to be a low quality person.

My best friend died of a heroin OD almost exactly ten years ago. Used to text him sometimes. As of a few years ago someone else has his #.

I understand this, all too well. My son passed away in April 2023, I still message him on his Discord.

I can't begin to imagine the grief of losing a child. I sometimes post messages to my late gf's Facebook page. That helps a little.

I think it's great how Facebook will keep passed loved ones' accounts open. There are a couple of people I revisit to tell them they're missed, happy birthdays, etc.

1 year ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

My sister in law took over my brother’s facebook, and is using it as her own now (she’s even remarried). instead of letting it be a memorial it’s now tainted. I hate it and resent her for it

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don’t resent her remarrying though. good for her. just… please let my brother go

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh my gosh what a creepy situation. Not knowing whether she's selfish or didn't know better, some people handle their mourning differently. Does Facebook let people have memorial pages? Maybe there's a way to start one?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This brought a tear to my eye. There's a tech warning that i would like to bring to your attention, but it might not be the right time to read it, so I'll post it in a reply to my own comment in case you want to skip it.

1 year ago | Likes 349 Dislikes 1

I'd like to warn you that if their phone number got cancelled due to the subscription being stopped, someone may randomly start responding because of provider number recycling. It generally takes a while to happen, especially if it's known that the subscriber passed away, but if it does it will likely freak you out.

1 year ago | Likes 359 Dislikes 0

They gave my grandfather's phone to my cousin after he died. I didn't know that. About had a heart attack and then about broke down first time my cousin called

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ten years after sending the occasional text(less than once a year) to a friend who disappeared from my life(don't know why, don't know where, I just hope they're alive), I got an angry reply from I don't know who.

I stopped texting that number, and now I just sit with my sorrow of a lost friendship, but I still think about them often enough and still get sad when I do.

Miss you, Sparrow.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I was aware of phone number recycling, but I completely ignored it since I did not send these kinds of texts to my uncle when he passed. Then about 2 years later, out of nowhere, I got an auto-message from him "Hey, I just joined Telegram". It did hurt a lot

1 year ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Oof, I can imagine. That feeling that number once belonged to someone you love, that feeling that number was once the thing you used to communicate with them, now handed out to some random NPC you have no affiliation with, and that number no longer describes your person in your phone anymore, like a second loss.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah let's say this is a side effect, the main reason that caused my heart to stop (seriously, IDK what happened, I felt the veins in my head, my eyes, my neck, as they were about to blow up) was seeing his name pop up on my screen

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

General recommendation for anyone in a similar situation with a family member: keep the number active for estate handling. Many services still use SMS/text as their primary multi-factor authentication route, so it is often possible to recover accounts and memories that may otherwise be lost.

Sister asked for my USSA number. I'm like, I don't have one afaik. I do... took setting up an account with my maiden name to get that for her. Using my legal name, same birthday, same ssn. Wouldn't work without using my maiden last name

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My mom didn't tell me that she gave my brother my deceased dad's phone after my brother's broke and one day I received a text from "Dad." Freaked me the fuck out.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Telegram got this thing that if someone in your contacts joins it you get a pop-up and opens a chat. I got one from my grandmother, who passed in 2021, last year. That did mess with me more than expected.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It happened to me. An old phone number of my very much alive bf. I'd been texting the number to vent when things went wrong. Then one day I got a reply.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was super freaky the first time I had something like this happen. A friend of mine died and after maybe a year or so I got a notification on my phone that they had joined Telegram.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Same thing, Viber suggested I say "hi" to my bestie, complete with the last photo I have of him, after a chemo session :/

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine your sadness. I only recently started thinking to save the few I have from my mom; she’s losing her ability to speak.

I have one from my grandmother that I torture myself with every now and again. It's definitely a double-edged sword.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

so weird, my phone is literally FILLED with voice messages from my wife, I delete everything else... just in case

1 year ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Copy them somewhere. Several different somewheres in different places.

1 year ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I am not that old, but would love to know how to copy a voicemail from my android phone... Is it as simple as connecting to laptop and if so, which folder on my phone would it be in? I admit I might be able to figure it out and will try... My grandma and my dad both died in the last couple of years, my dad last November, and I would like to save and free up my VM. Thanks.
