Story time: close to finishing trade school, start looking for a job. Really nervous about job interviews because they haven’t gone so well in the past. I deal with depression, social anxiety, lack of self confidence, etc. A friendly acquaintance says his old company might be hiring, so he gives me the personal phone number for the president of the company... wait... what... HE WANTS ME TO BASICALLY COLD CALL THE COMPANY PRESIDENT AND ASK FOR A JOB... Jesus H Christ on a stick. So I finally call after 24 hours of freaking out about it and trying to figure out what to say. I leave a voicemail on a Friday afternoon and don’t really expect to hear back from him. HE ACTUALLY CALLS BACK on Monday and schedules an interview for Wednesday! Buuuut he tells me I’m going to be interviewed by himself (president), VP of Sales, VP of Operations, AND the Project Manager all at the same time... for an entry level position. So now I have two days to freak out about this upcoming interview, which I did plenty of, but I also decided to do everything I could to prepare for it. So I researched common interview questions and how to answer them, I talked to my dad who has a lot of experience as an interviewer, I took notes. I typed out a detailed outline of my past work experience and schooling to bring with me to the interview. I typed out a list of questions to ask them and brought that with me to the interview. I wore slacks and a collared shirt that I ironed, I got a haircut the day before and shaved the day of. I was ready to put my best foot forward aaaand also scared out of my mind. But I went in there and exceeded my own expectations, I was confident and personable, I connected with the interviewers, and I stumbled on my words only a few times. I even sent them an email a few hours later thanking them for the interview and got an instant reply saying I made a great impression on all of them! I am still in disbelief that it was me who rocked that interview. And I think it was all thanks to the preparation I did. I haven’t felt this great in a long time. Thank you for reading. Have a good night.
Update: they offered me the job the next day!
