Suns getting real low big guy

Feb 26, 2025 4:08 PM

I have friends who approached me every time I try to start something new. I tend to do VERY well in what I do, but I cannot maintain it due to lack of time. One friend, she wanted to be a VTuber. I will drop her link below in a bit. She approached me while I was doing reaction content as a VTuber...I know so original. However I helped her setup, learn the basics, and then a bit of guidance on streaming. She is now 4 years strong I believe. She is doing well, but I can't help feel envious of her and the situation. https://www.twitch.tv/silverstrikers

Another recently just got out of the military and was having a mental meltdown, a existential crisis almost. He started writing about thought process' and how they go through cycles, conscience or not. He started writing a few months ago because I have been trying to write a book for 2 years (longer because getting the info out in a way that feels comfortable and not a lore dump is hard af) and he loves talking about the backstory of it with me. I went through all his chapters and proofread/corrected the structuring while keeping the integrity intact. Well a company that is willing to market it and publish it for him for a % just got passed his way. Once again, I am envious of his situation.

Another is one I brought into DnD. He didn't want to play but I ran a solo adventure with miniatures and terrain. He was hooked instantly as a winged bird ranger. (can't remember how to spell the race's name). After not being able to find many games, he became a DM too. It was great for me because I have been a forever DM. I showed him how I tried to market myself as a paid DM but I didn't have the time to dedicate it to the craft. He took the advice and FLOURISHED. He doesn't have a big popular company or anything, he just runs it on his discord with tips being his payment, not necessary. He makes almost 800 a week sometimes running 2 games with 6 people in each. I am so proud of what he has done and how he has captured his creative spark to help him earn a living...but once again I am envious of his situation.

I tried to make games, World Class on Steam, but I....once again....don't have time for it. I showed one of my friends how to code using Unreal Engine and how simple it was to look up blueprints and what not. He creates particle effects for sale on the Unreal Marketplace for...in my opinion too much...but people buy it all the time. I truly am happy that he is also doing what he loves. He is really good at it and is currently working on a game that I think will take off (I cannot share name because I don't know if he wants me to yet).

Anyways, enough venting. Gunna sit down and write more of my book today just had to get these pent up feelings out first so they don't bleed into the book XD

Next time someone needs your help, you could make a video for them (or with them) and post it on YouTube - since you're already teaching them it won't take additional time (maybe a bit for editing) and then you're building a useful channel with evergreen content. Could even follow up annually with a "how are they doing?" Short to show how awesome your teaching was.

Freaking amazing idea! Thank you so much! I truly do appreciate your help. ❤️

Literally put it on a note on my desk.

Sounds like you spread yourself too thin if you don't have time to invest into anything, and are picking up too many different things. Meanwhile, the people you help do invest the time, stay focused, and succeed. I say this as someone who absolutely dips into too many things and can't stick with one, and then gets frustrated when somebody else zooms past you.

This. A lot of this! I just can't help it. I would love to say it is ADD, but I don't want to blame it on anything. I just find a passion, get REALLY far in it, people that I am friends with seem to love the progress, I teach them, I don't have time to continue that project then 6 months goes by before I realize it.

Was Red Skull really the right person to use for this?

"I lead others to treasures I cannot possess". Just chose this one over the hooded version. More of his guidance over the soul stone.

@op you're incredible! You have a gift and you should be proud of the successes you help others create. Your light shines through them and it's beautiful.

Ty, it truly means a lot! I need to work through the personal feelings toward it, but I am truly proud of everyone doing well! I just look upon the success with envy as well as pride. Mosco or Wee Lass on YouTube and patreon really helps calm me down lol. Hamish is best support

So... you're great at helping people?

So much so I run support in video games, lol. I just can't help but feel envious of how well people tend to do. Don't get me wrong, proud as fuck...but still.

Looks like you are great in helping others manifest their dreams, but maybe you could also use some outside support for yours

True. I am trying to just write with the time I have. I will continue to help those who ask for it 😃

You learned 4 different subjects well enough to teach others how to succeed in each subject. That is a rare talent, have you considered being a personal mentor or career advisor? Both pay quite well and you get to continue doing what comes naturally to you

I am not sure how to go about that. I feel bad charging people for helping them. I just want people to do well. Right now I am sticking to writing because I can do that and take care of Gram at the same time =D

This. Whoever you're working for is undervaluing you, hon. I've been a software tester, game level designer, game engine training coordinator/technical writer, game writer, and now novelist/ TTRPG writer. You have the kind of broad, portable skill base people pay well for. I hope you find someone who *will.* You deserve it.
Also, you're kind and generous, which is truly invaluable. Hang in. Talk to your managers, even if you're a contractor. Polish your resume. You're worth it. *hugs*

Actually teared up reading this. I would love to work for someone but not at a place where I can promise a lot if time. I feel that would disrespect the person putting their trust in me. For now writing is all I can manage. First 5 chapters on order are done, got 15 written that need SERIOUS reorganizing lol. Ty so much. *hug* https://youtu.be/VVTYtsfg-tc?si=AY17BJdyFm--k7OV
