At first I thought this was a 3-legged race, and it blew my mind! I was sure they were gonna crash and burn at the end.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The most beautiful thing about this: The guides let the competitors first over the finish line

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That water droplet made me think they were censoring the booty.

1st place , I bet you she didn't see that coming.

All jokes aside that blind chick has a wagon you could feed the settlers with

?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that a Donner party joke?

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

This is one of those everyone wins cause holy hell I didn’t know this was a thing.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it always mixed gender? Or does it just happen to be the 3 pairs here are mixed?

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This may be totally wrong but it may be easier for males to match not only the speed but the synchronization of each woman’s stride.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it might be difficult to find sighted women athletes who can keep up with professional blind athletes. Men tend to have longer legs

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imagine if the fastest person alive is blind. We'd never know.

Don’t unmute

I wonder if they practice with a metronome? Like a musician getting good at low speeds and then ramping it up.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well thats just flippin cool!!

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you see them coming it is already too late

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They should make a rail with a waist harness or something. The blind runners's time can never exceed that of the guide when they do this.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like they're slowing them down though

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How do you get that fast blind? I'm assuming they weren't born blind? Cause then you spend your entire life barely walking. Or am I wrong?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I always get very emotional watching these. I think part is seeing men support women in sport

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had no idea this sort of thing existed, and I find it to be... holy fucking shit, these have gotta be some seriously good people!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imagine running full on in complete darkness. I’d shit my pants.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if I had to run fast I'd hit my own legs together- how they don't bump into each other is amazing

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fyi...because there are varying degrees of blindness...the blindfold ensures anyone with limited sight has an advantage.

You read my mind, was wondering why.

Always wondered how this worked. Neat!

The sheer TRUST. I'm inspired!

To do what? Trust? Or participate in 3 legged race? ?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

What do they do for blind men?

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Gorillas

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

But then we are stuck with Gorrillas?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Never ran on track ground when it rained... Is it slippery or does it have good grip?

3 years ago | Likes 121 Dislikes 1

Even without spikes, it's a rough, slightly absorbent material.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think the track is slightly absorbent and spongey, so it retains its grip.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They have spiked shoes so I don't think it's much of an issue for them.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yeah , that makes much more sense. Never took a peek at running shoes.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I regularly run on tracks in the rain without spikes and it’s still usually fine!

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Usually.......

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my experience it mostly depends on how nice/well cared for the track is

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On worse tracks (like in highschool) there are sometimes huge divets in lanes with giant water pools!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Others have mentioned spikes, I'd add that modern tracks are kinda rubbery. Slightly spongy and grippy

3 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

ehh, I've found the grippiness gets iffy if there's any standing water

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

...any surface that's flooded will be challenging to race on, with cleats or tires or anything else.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

almost forgot about the actual question

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Spikes:

3 years ago | Likes 169 Dislikes 0

That was not an available choice answer. You’re wrong.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I choose to believe the part on the heel is magnets just in case the spikes don’t work.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Ah , never really payd attention to that. thanks!

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

They have different levels of spike as well depending on the surface or sometimes the event. I did distance so I had shorter spikes.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My track shoes had removable spikes for when you wore them down ... ?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those look like they are removable. Notice how the metal spikes are depressed into the shoe

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They only run on the front part of their feet and the spicks are pretty long. Longer than this probably.

3 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

6mm for track

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah , that makes sense. Never really looked at running shoes.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They are about that length. At least when and where I was in school if they were longer than a certain length, you would be DQ’d.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

How does one get Dairy Queen'd? How ever it happens, sign me up!

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It’s funny you say that. We had a run to and from DQ it was about a mile long. Once a year we would run to DQ eat ice cream then run back.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The run to was by far more fun than the run back on a hot spring day lol

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We had ones a little smaller than this for synthetic tracks, and longer than this for dirt

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yep, we had track with almost an asphalt type surface and you used small spikes, or cinder tracks with long spikes. Still have my wrench.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We’d swap em out depending where we were racing

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah for distance if it was XC season we had dort spikes for track you swap them. But I had specific track shoes vs xc shoes because grass(1
