Systems Administrator Problem

Oct 21, 2018 3:24 PM

I did a fresh 6.7u1 install using the RAID controller on the motherboard. I have 3 “disks”.

1) Boot SSD
2) HDD storage disk (files to transfer in)
3) 4TB RAID 10 Logical disk

My controllers shows up

But all my drives show up independently!!

Booted in with Windows 10 to verify it is operational, of course it works.

Cat Tax

For now all virtuals work so I have time to figure this out. My only hit is to performance.

Anyone other nerds have advice?

Did you set up your raid right before windows boots, or is it a windows-software-raid setup?

Well, it appears my RAID controller is a softRAID. I’m using the motherboard capabilities. So, Windows can recognize it but VMware won’t.

I guess you'll need an add-in PCI SATA3 RAID card?

I’m considering that but I’d hate to buy one and find out they work the same as the onboard. Looking at the StarTech PEXSAT34RH.

Yeah, probably google esxi + add in card name to see if people say they're compatible.
