Severe spall damage is visible on this home along a harbor.

The concrete has delaminated, and the rebar inside has rusted and corroded, compromising the structure.

Although the view may be nice, living near the water comes with unique challenges. Constant exposure to salt air, moisture, and harsh elements can take a serious toll on the property if it isn’t properly built to withstand it.

This girder is severely compromised by termite damage and wood rot. The hammer went through it with ease.

Vines are spreading through this crawlspace. Their rapid growth and invasive nature can eventually become a problem by interfering with the structure or hiding other underlying issues.

A pipe burst is causing water to pour into this crawlspace. A large puddle has begun to form, which can lead to foundation deterioration, wood rot, mold, and long-term structural damage.

Anyone else upset they weren’t invited to the post-and-pier party?

When a girder fails like this, it puts added stress on the surrounding framing and can lead to uneven floors or further structural damage if not repaired.

…Hoping the help they were asking for was how to properly build the foundation.

Mateenbar is ramping up quick to fill the void since Owens ended the terms to manufacture under license. Mateenbar is also expanding to produce shapes other than straight bar sections. Special order only.

#8 Structuring's haunted.

Fairly certain the homeowners fail to find the state of their foundation “mildly amusing.”

It will always be wild to me seeing houses without basements. I know it's because you don't need to get below the frost layer in warm climates, it still just feels wrong to me.

I wonder why my water bill is so high?

My wife and I just bought a new house, and in the course of repairing the water treatment system and the shut off I've got a good look at the crawl space of the house. At least it's dry relatively clean. Now if we could just make it mouse free

I always love these posts, but as a European I also shake my head about how houses are built in the US.
