Stop touching the bottom, stop touching the bottom, stop touching the bottom, STOP TOUCHING THE BOTTOM! (But yeah cool games idk what shadow boxing is tho)
A shadow box frame is a type of display case that has a fixed space between the glass and the artwork to create a sense of depth. Shadow box frames can be used for traditional flat artworks as well as three-dimensional items such as memorabilia and textured works of art.
Command and Conquer was the one to get me into PC gaming. I could see the advantages before, but that one offered something leagues ahead of consoles at the time.
Same here. I had played many games before that, but C&C was what really got me hooked on gaming. I remember ticking over to year 2000, and the Y2K bug, I was playing C&C and continued to make sure that it was the last thing I played if Y2K was real xD
I think Dune was the first of those types of games; certainly, it was the first I had. I'm just the right age to remember games entirely written in MS DOS, and if you wanted graphics, you loaded a game from a cassette not a floppy disk. Years later, I remember playing Call of Duty online for the first time, and Battlefield 1942. I played Total War from the very first Shogun. Man, such great games for their time. The games now, though. The games now are PHENOMENAL.
I don't think you can fully appreciate the awe with which I survey the landscapes in Skyrim and Fallout 4, or the joy of spending thousands and thousands of hours in EUIV, or the buzz of figuring out the challenges of Frostpunk and Ixion, or the exploration of Subnautica, if you're baseline wasn't "You are in a clearing in a forest. A path leads to the North. Type N to go North."
I played Dune 2 back on Dos, LOVED it. Beat Dune 2000 when it came out- iconic OST. And then Emperor Battle for Dune, the one I feel like no one remembers, was pretty badass too.
Nox was criminally overlooked! Even the multiplayer could be decent fun. The game was so much fun, although incredible hard at times. From what I remember.
My favorite was hearing their power get knocked offline, then sneak _way_ too many stealth tanks in their base. Or finding that one gap where they could fit in undetected.
That iconic, over the top infantry unit, uh- comical scream. Wow, as I wrote that out it sounded kinda morbid. But you know what one I’m talking about. :/
I played an ungodly amount of Red Alert back in the day! Recently picked up the C&C Ultimate collection on Steam. It's 17 games & on sale for $12 CAD right now for the Summer Sale.
I remember forcing my dad to buy a CD drive specifically so I could play C&C back in the day... It was the first game that did not have a floppy version. Good times!

Well, the reason you have two discs here is because it was across two discs! One for Nod, one for GDI. I used to love the original C&C, but it was so difficult back in the day!

The Westwood Diablo killer. I remember seeing that in a printed magazine highlight.
MasterMookie
It could never kill Diablo they almost felt like two different genres. The "physics" etc the spell casting etc. So much fun.

I played it last year, there is a mod called MentalOmega that is really good if you want to play singleplayer missions
MrTheSpoon
Playing C&C on a LAN and hearing "select target" from the other pc. SCATTER tanks! You know the orbital laser is about to cause some serious damage.

I believe you can still download an open-source version of Red Alert, C&C and Dune2000 on the world wide web. There's even PvP http://www.openra.net/

I'd like to play it but also want to leave my nostalgia alone

They still hold up extremely well in my eyes, I still like playing through the campaigns from time to time.

The reason I have two C&C 95’s is because I had a Mac first. And when all my homies in 7th grade were playing Red Alert, I was forced to play c&c gold. It still hooked me, but damn playing Red Alert at its peak was TOP.
Z0op
I think i own that game legally at least 4 times. First bought the dos version, later c&c95, and got it at least twice with those “first decade” bundle packs that had all the games
andrewmaston
Wtf was c&c gold?! I played red alert recently it was a bit disappointing tbh.. I remember it looking amazing and being so gripping
Whats the spiritual successor to these games? I'm surprised the genre hasn't been reinvented.
beardata07
C&C gold was just c&c for Mac, and it upped the pixel density so it resembled Red Alert more.
andrewmaston
Back when macintosh was a potential up and comer in the gaming scene!
C0baltBlue
Well, the reason you have two discs here is because it was across two discs! One for Nod, one for GDI. I used to love the original C&C, but it was so difficult back in the day!

I am infatuated with red alert 2 and Yuri’s revenge. I still play them occasionally.

EA bringing RA2 and YR to Steam was one of their few 'Ws' in recent years.
andrewmaston
I thought that was when the series took a downturn, then again RA 2 came out a long time after the original
beardata07
I looooved Red Alert 2. I played the hell out of that and Yuri’s Revenge.
tucker148
You can still play RA online against other players
