The annoying thing is, if anyone ever bothered following the USB design standard you'd be able to put your thumb on the embossed logo and always have the correct orientation. But no. Can't thave things that make sense or are easy. Not allowed.
It doesn't matter which way you try to insert it, the counter-rotating apparatus within both the device and the port will synchronize to keep both contact points at opposite positions... the only way to overcome this is to pretend you don't want to plug it in, then the counter rotation sensors will align the plug and port (you should feel an almost imperceptible "click" when this occurs) at which point you have .005 seconds to force the usb into the port.
One doesn't turn the USB upside-down, this could shake up it's information. One needs to turn the computer upside-down, as it's data wears safety belts.
it never fails to boggle me how many people struggle with this. Just LOOK at the blessed thing when you pick it up, decide which way is "up", then look at the port. aim before you fire. super simple stuff.
Yeah, I think, thats the extended edition, many people experience, but nobody talks about... 1) You're not alone, 2) Thank you for your honesty, it needs bravers for this kind of level

I somehow run into the same problem with USB C when I try plugging my tablet in before falling asleep

Shove it harder make it fit... The last thing the port heard before it was damaged.

the problem is something you have to give your computer a little reach around

Or, in my case one time... "Wrong, wrong, wrong.... wrong again? Takes a look. Oh, that's not a usb port."

Someone must be blamed for having USB-A the same size as RJ45. Too many bent pins...
