100% convinced it is bad luck. In Swedish superstition involving black cats, ut is said that you should spit three times over your left shoulder if a black cat crossed the road. When I was a kid, I tried to, but ended up spitting on myself instead. My friends laughed and it was very embarrassing. Very bad luck.

I'd follow a cat to see where they were going. Actually my neighbor did that once. We were standing outside chatting, and a cat ran by and he suddenly broke into a run after it. As an afterthought he yelled back at me, "that's my cat he isn't supposed to get out."

Later on I saw him and it turns out that wasn't his cat. Just a similar looking one. His cat was in his house the whole time. I can only imagine what went though the cats mind, "why the FUCK did this random guy start chasing me?"
