It’s a fucking goldfish. Just bury it in your back yard like a real parent

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Completely true. Dad works for water systems in small town, including the lakes/ponds. City spent millions just TRY & get it under control.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I had a tiny goldfish that grew to be about a foot in length, last time I checked he was still alive in my friend's pond

Goldfish do get quite big. Catfish do to. Spoon bill Lake of the Ozarks.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I use to bowfish and carp will get huge we could find female about to spawn weighing as much as 40lbs and about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Some folks will eat them but it's considered a trash fish.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Found a goldfish in a bag on the ground after a carnival. 8 years later he is 2 ft long and turned completely white. Named him Lucky

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Can we flush them like Nemo?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

this is why when i worked at a pet store we wouldnt sell goldfish to people who didnt have at least a 20 gallon tank with a filter.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

any smaller and they die a horrible death of their insides growing too big for their outsides :(

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Flush them down the toilet like a normal person

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ehh, they're not the best food source, but could certainly be a snack. I might have difficulty if I've kept it for a while though!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw a Billy & Mandy episode as a kid about this and it didn't go so great

Why not selling them to people with koi ponds? They would make a great addition to the gang.

4 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Koi is different from goldfish.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Same family though. They aren't the same species but goldfish would do jus fine in a koi pond.

Just wait until they evolve into a dragon.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Better yet, stop abusing goldfish by cramming them into small tanks and stunting their growth. They shouldn't be the common pet tht they are

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

If by “stunting their growth” you mean literally letting them exhibit their incredibly unique evolutionary advantage that lets them live in>

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

A wide range of viable environments, then sure.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

How long do you think the average pet goldfish lives?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's a myth that they only grow to the size of their container. They end up stunted and deformed when kept in a too-small tank.

Yes, if you're an osprey. In a lake in my country there are goldfish that have been washed there from garden ponds during a flood. Turns >

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or so goes the fishermans' tale. I've heard a couple stories from people who claim to have caught them in Stillwater.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've heard of folks catching Pacu that thought they'd caught piranha

Asian carp is already kind of like that. They eat whatever and they are dangerous to anyone boating on the Chicago river.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They’d resolve the giant goldfish problem in a heartbeat.

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Catfish and carp are bottom feeders and they taste amazing

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

I prefer bass and trout, but I guess the more people catching and eating these invasive species, the better.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

In addition, goldfish are a type of carp.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Pardon my ignorance but, what's the problem with having oversized goldfish on lakes?

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Degrading water quality and uprooting native water plants

4 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Goldfish are considered a n invasive species and out compete native species and throws off the local ecology & pollute the waters

4 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

They have a huge waste load and eat everything fish/bug/plants.... EVERYTHING

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

They're basically carp - rats of the lake. They're aggressive and outcompete native fish, dig out native aquatic plants, and once they grow/

4 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

past a certain size, nothing in the water can predate on them, so their population explodes.

4 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Also goldfish are really dirty vs other fish. They produce a lot of metabolic waste (pee)which may what is meant by degrading water quality

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fish pee is secreted through thier skin. I used to keep them and if you didn't swap the water often they just pee themselves to death quick

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I also do not see how they could cause more damage than normal wildlife would. They’re literally just orange carp. Carp are everywhere.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 28

Carp don't belong here either

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

They were introduced into Australia and they absolutely destroyed the native fish population. It’s illegal to throw them back when caught.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Carp isn't native to North America...

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Still everywhere.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Still not native to North America.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

That has nothing to do with releasing a carp into a place that already has carp in it. If they are native or not is by that point irrelevant

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Goldfish will only grow as big as their environment will allow. Lake = holy fuck!

4 years ago | Likes 1810 Dislikes 19

This inaccurate. They grow to an average of 1ft. Unless you have a pond you shouldn't have a goldfish.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

False! I tossed one in the ocean and it died within minutes!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Let them into the ocean, a gremlin tale

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I will make a sea monster by throwing them into an ocean. (Yes, I know they're freshwater.)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Their bones can be stunted, but not their organs. Eventually they'll die before they can get as big as they should.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I wonder how big Lake Superior Goldfish are?

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Too cold for warm water species?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The pike love em

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Maybe put some more pike in the lake? Or Muskie?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Id love that. Would rather get more salmon

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They are of superior size..

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Not really. What happens is if they're kept poorly (ex in a fishbowl swimming in filth), they end up stunted and deformed.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I wonder what goldfishes tastes like.. apart from gold.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They are carp so not great but they are edible all the same.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What about those thrown in oceans?

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I... Never mind.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

Not a marine biologist but freshwater animals dont survive long in saltwater. Saltwater animals have, like, special glands/blood or somethin

4 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Thank God. Imagine whale sized goldfish.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In so far as they will die or grow sick once their enclosure doesn't fit, yeah, that's sort of true.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The problem is that the bones stop growing, but internal organs don't

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never quite the ideal situation, yeah. That's why I keep my little killifish in nice big tanks, just to make sure everything is okay.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're breeding, the smaller ones could be fine short term, but large is good.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, yeah, it's tough to find the eggs in a bigger tank, so I don't get as many babies.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Theres an old quarry near me that's now filled with water. Someone put goldfish in there and they're huge.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imagine Them in the ocean! No Limit

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lets toss em in the ocean! Oh salt water...maybe they can evolve

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same with catfish.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

False, they'll grow as big as they damn well please. Then you get a bigger tank, and a bigger tank, then it's time to dig a pond..

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can confirm I have fished there caught a gold fish was very confused.

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Is goldfish tasty?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're in the carp family.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Smoked might not be bad if the lake is clean

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are made of gold so probably not

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is super false. No animal does this.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

I once had a hamster that shrunk itself permanently to fit inside its tubes. Cage was previously home to a RoboDwarf and I didn’t notice.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Brits moved to America... look at the size of them now.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They once released a goldfish into the oceans. Now their name is only spoken in a hushed whisper. Goldjira

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's fucking awesome

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's also untrue. They still grow but slowly and deform to fit an inadequate space

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And then die painfully

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also a complete fallacy

4 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 6

Not complete, their growth can be stunted by environmental factors. It's not an unlimited upper bound though.

4 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 6

Yeah, stunted by death so I suppose I see your point

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It's more accurately stunted to death. Which was the point. They don't die quickly they often die of complications due to the stunting.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or is it?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Correction: bones stop growing. Internal organs do not. This does not benefit good health or humane care

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's what I meant, as clarified elsewhere in this thread. They don't stop growing because they die, they die because they stop growing.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But they definitely stop growing.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is a complete fallacy, they just die quickly in small environments due to stress and most likely, improper care

4 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 19

Did... Did you not see this news? They don't always die. It's not a complete fallacy.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

So in this case, a lake, is not an example of a "small space" hence why they are growing large. Did you not understand or are you trolling?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So…stunted growth? Lol

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

Trolling is a bad look on anyone

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stunted growth and death does not equal oh don’t worry they only grow to their environment

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Not in a healthy way where they live a long life.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Will it shrink again when you put it in a bowl or a small tank?

Not a legend m8. There's fucking man eaters in some areas of the world. Easily 200+ lbs and 5ft+

It's not that it's a perfect environment it's that dams have regular maintenance. Theres big catfish in other places just not many divers
