As always with this, no. In Idiocracy the problem was the stupidity, the various morons were still good-faith *trying* to do the jobs they were incompetent at. That's absolutely not the case here.

What happens in the story has actually already been happening in real life. For example there really was a trash avalanche that killed several people.
