What the heck is the ginger root?

I was the only american in the group chat and choked a little when I was like "tooooo far" but the UK friends and I played "what the hell is that ICE word for awhile" which was an amusing party game. Rice stalks. lol.

I'm also not recalling which Chinese character that is, but the ginger root is the one that confuses me the most.
