Once they numbered in their thousands. Now, time and the changing sociopolitical habitat have taken toll on their population. Where previously the distinctive howl of the rotary engine's exhaust echoed down back roads and mountain passes, now there is only the quiet murmur of the lumbering electric herds.

To see one of these machines in the wild is now a rare treat. To see two still running is exceptional indeed.

The final culmination of Mazda's #rotary experiment. The #rx8 . Deeply flawed in many ways. But beautiful in many others

I used to own one. Very nice car in many ways, but the maintenance was quite a burden.

3rd gen RX-7's and RX-8 are amazing looking cars. I still miss my rotary, but do love electric also.

I don't do enough miles to justify replacing it. I do, do enough to justify replacing the sheet metal on the sills.

Ha! Mine was a 2nd Gen non-turbo that I'd stripped off everyone I could (no power steering, etc). Not a dragster, but indecently fun to drive.

I've always loved the Wankel motor. It's just a shame that it was so inherently flawed.

I got 240k miles outta mine before I sold it without a problem and that was a 1st generation RX7.

I've had it for a decade. The only thing that ever killed it was a dead battery. Sent it for rebuild recently - because spending 5k on an engine and metal repairs was cheaper than replacing it with an unknown quantity. It was still in spec when pulled apart.
