“Come and Get Your Love” by the band Redbone. Redbone was a Native American and Mexican-American rock band known for blending rock, funk, and indigenous influences in their music. The song, released in 1973, became a major hit and is recognized for its catchy beat and fusion of styles, including Native American cultural references.

That group was actually pretty badass.

I think it was referenced in the excellent show Res Dogs… I remember hearing this song and I think it was when we looked it up while watching that show

That's where I learned this fact! Such a great show.

Pat and Lolly Vegas also wrote The Witch Queen of New Orleans

Marie Laveau's family is still going strong in New Orleans.

One of the most badass underrated basslines.

My ex got into an actual shouting match with me over this once. She was 100% positive the singer was black and I was being racist for correcting her. She's black and her mom was the one that insisted that was the truth to her. But she is also extremely toxic and narcissistic and incapable of accepting her faults or when she fucks up. (I.e. it was my fault for seeing in her phone that she was cheating and if I hadn't looked at her phone I wouldn't be upset 🤣🤣)

Great song! Also used in the intro for 'F is for Family' series

I always pictured someone booking them instead of Leon Redbone and vice versa.

Look for the entire performance. The intro before they start playing is awesome!

I've only seen the music video where they are out in nature. I'll have to look it up.

Kind of disappointing the new 3 minute limit was not used

That looks like it's from a 'midnight special' episode judging by the giant neon name behind them.

Man that second comment just rips you in the feels. Holy shit

Yup, and actually the end he really starts just totally killing it! This Midnight Special performance is one of my favourites

It makes the band name even funnier, doesn't it

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But what it isn't...
In the Francophone Cajun culture (Cajun Country, Louisiana), "rehbon" is a derogatory term for a person of mixed ethnicity. "Redbone" is the Americanized form.

Oh damn I did not know that. I thought they were making a dick joke. Thank you

I'd always thought the lyric was "What's the matter with your hair?"
😏😉
😄😂

They also opened their shows with a demonstration of fancy dancing (IE what people think of with Pow-wows)

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I also like their songs, "I am Somebody," and, "One World." Both from their Peacepipe album.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Few songs vibe as great as this one.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You may remember them from such classics as "Custer had it coming" and "We were all wounded at Wounded Knee"

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't know why I said that like Troy McLure. Lol

@op Same, for along time i knew the song and not the artists. After Guardians of the Galaxy renewed all the songs in the ost i found out the band is primarily made up if native Americans. It also made sense regarding their band name, redbone

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're not native americans, they're not white... /s

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Im mexican-american... Maybe native American. My people are the Coahuiltecan and the Comecrudo.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get the reference, a lot of others won't, but I get it.

Just a great song and group.

Red Thunder was another indigenous band that followed in their footsteps in the early 90's. Great cultural fusions.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well Redbone was a derogatory term.

Its why i enjoy certain movies and video games. They bring old music that has fallen from the popular spotlight and bring it back with a new context bringing in a new genration of fans that can appreciate it and lock it into their nostalgia. I loved bioshock and fallout for their 30s,40s,50s era music

I can't tell ya how many times I listened to the G1 and G2 mix on repeat.

2 months ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 2

Listening to these somehow led me to Mungo Jerry. https://youtu.be/wvUQcnfwUUM?si=8o3Db80R3FNSq6PS Get your weird on :)

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, that's a great classic. Not to mention the David Bowie hits. They just hit the fucking spot.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The first Guardians mix tape had a 70s theme, the second an 80s, and so I was looking forward to the third being 90s but instead it seemed all the place. While a bit disappointing the movie was still very good with a very hateable villain.

2 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Yeah well, he was cruel to cutesy animals, easy to hate, but not a movie i ever want to rewatch, beteeen quills depression and the animal abuse, no thanks

2 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

I just suffered through it a second time, still blown away by how good the acting is. It did have a very satisfying ending I have to say.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh man, baby Rocket's first word being "hurts" in that voice while being in a cage made me tear up so hard.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah that movie had multiple gutpunches, the whole movie had a grave of the fireflies depressive atmosphere, while the franchise usually was so lighthearted (imo, the sappy moments with yondus funeral and all also didnt really fit, but at least the entire movie wasnt like that).

Left a bad aftertaste, maybe a good movie, but no desire to rewatch (while ive seen most of mcu (not following newer stuff anymore tho) at least twice)

I've known and heard this song most of my life. I think just about any rez kid can say the same.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I didn't know until a couple years ago. My father in law walked in on me watching F is for Family. He goes "Did you know that band is all Native and are the only all Native band to win a grammy?"

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I learned this from one of the best shows ever made, Reservation Dogs

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guest starring Bill Burr, who also used it as the intro/theme song for his cartoon "F is for Family."

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

quite amazing that he turned out to be a decent person if even 10% of the shit in that cartoon was like what his life was growing up. That show is great, and damn it doesn't pull punches about what life was like then for folk

I'm born '84 and this was kind of my life, too, minus the exaggerations. My dad never fought in any wars, but served some time in west germany in 72. He wasn't an absolute screaming prick like in the show, in fact he was quite a nice guy to us and pretty much everyone, but i would say like...the financial situation of the family, and the fact that I'm the younger of 2 brothers, i really connect with it. It's just kind of...."real," while still hitting the comedy and drama beats.

...now I wonder if there's any native American metal bands

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not a band, but Joey Belladonna the lead singer of Anthrax is Native.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Indigenous. More blues rock, but great music.

I am today old to learn this too. Love this song.
