#paleontology #paleontologist_needed #rock #calcite #crystals

This fossil has been broken apart due to unforeseen cracks in the rock, and here it shows the calcite crystal formations.

At first I thought it was a brachiopod, but com paired to my other fossil brachiopod it has no resemblance

The calcite crystal most likely replaced the inner organs of whatever this creature was

For reference this was a from some limestone rock located from the Paleozoic era, with bivalves inside the rock as well

Good news it's actually a nautiloid cephalopod! it had large calcite crystals growing out of it

It's been a couple years since I made this comment and I am now certain it is a nautiloid. Missing sutures due to how it was mined
