It's always "free market" this and "competition" that until *they* have to change how they do business

wisconsin is also working on some of this legislation, and arkansas has signed similar legislation

"Better benefits" is another purely American thing. Workers elsewhere have their "benefits" enshrined in the law of the land.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Elsewhere already fought their wars and conflicts over this - the US, not so much, which is the problem.

This is why I deny job offers from John Deere... and the fact they're actively trying to prevent the right-to-repair

I will always be proud of my grandfather for 2 things. Serving in WWII and getting out of Iowa before starting a family.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I could leave, but why should I make it easier for Republicans to get elected here?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly, I thought the same way for a long time. I even used to go door to door campaigning. Now that I have a kid, I'm seriously trying to convince my wife to move to Europe or Australia or New Zealand or anywhere I can feel comfortable letting my daughter go to school without worrying she'll come home in a tiny bodybag.

Child labor AND trying to force women to crank out more kids... They don't like it when labor in short supply demands higher wages. So, their solution is to force the labor pool to increase with unwanted kids that will have higher chance to get stuck with menial jobs their whole lives. Increased labor pool means less wage negotiation power.

I'm currently applying for jobs, and it's always fun to see management positions requiring degrees and years of experience that pay $15 / hour. I used to run a small business, and I paid my employees $20 / hour, and the job required no college, certifications, or extensive experience.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Who would have thought the consequences of reducing the unemployment rate to historic lows would be to spur capitalists into wanting to restart child labor? It’s an employees market now but they still wish to exploit us.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At job interviews I ask why the position is open. It's a test. If they say "Because no one wants to work" that is an immediate red flag.

"As the haves would have it, people must work harder(“maximise productivity”) and lower their expectations. The more they get, the more they will demand, until we end up with a social democracy — or worse. It’s time to return to nineteenth-century standards, the kind that currently obtain throughout the Third World, the kind that characterised America itself in 1900 — specifically, an unorganised working populace that toils for a bare subsistence without benefits, protections, or entitlements1/2

... a mass of underemployed, desperate poor who help to depress wages and serve as a target for the misplaced resentment of those just above them; a small, shrinking middle class that hangs on by its bleeding fingers; and a tiny, obscenely rich, tax-free owning class that has it all. For the haves, deregulation, privatisation, and rollback are the order of the day. “Capitalism with a human face” has become capitalism in your face. 2/3

While commentators announce “the end of class struggle” and even “the end of history,” in fact, U.S. politico-economic elites are waging class war more determinedly than ever." - Michael Parenti, Global Rollback https://redsails.org/global-rollback/

Well the average number of jobs in every home is increasing. Just the messed up way for families to afford to live.

2 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 4

I'd like to point it that it won't be their kids working, only poor families. I fucking hate it here so much. Like, people really can't imagine us being on earth outside of working and making money.

Look at the smirk on this wizened crone's face. A look of smug self superiority because not only has she done something she knows will be unpopular with her rival party, but because it will guarantee her the favor of the bourgeoisie and a role in their future designs on undercutting the power of the people

It's not even working, even teenagers in the lowest-COL-in-the-country state won't work at the wages most businesses want to pay. Source: live here.

It's definitely become a competetion to see who can be the best at sucking corporate dick.

Another Renfield. Smug over getting eating bugs at the masters table.

The GOP is a death cult. They are aim for a return yo the middlevages. Register. Vote. Oppose them every way you can, every chance you get.

America's past time is warmongering, just start the next civil war already! 🙄

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 20

It's already started, but hopfully this time we can keep it political rather than redorting to military.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Something scary to consider, Erdogan just got re-elected in Turkey. Don't assume the good guys always win even when the alternative is horrible. The only difference with Turkey is if America goes full authoritarian, then the rest of the Western World and democracy in general is fucked

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you think we are greatest nation on earth. Then you should be voting against child labor.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can I do that even if I'm painfully aware that it isn't?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, denied request. This ain't a free to vote country.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Talk about Fucking groomers grooming, letting underage workers serve alcohol, as long as they watch training on recognition of sexual harassment. Ya that's going to work. ffs people what the hell.

Kim Reynolds thoroughly took aim at them in Iowa and took away so much of their bargaining power.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So I guess we're lowering the voting age, right? Right?

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Just because you're old enough to work, get shot at school, or give birth to your rapists' baby, doesn't mean you're mature enough to vote.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It’s almost like this country forgot why we lowered the voting age. We sent a bunch of kids to die in Vietnam, who had no say in the governance of this country. The sheer irony of suggesting military service be a prerequisite to getting the right to vote is fascist enough, but absolutely disgusting when you look at the history of the voting age.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

But we’ll NEVER entertain a voting age cap, because it doesn’t matter when bunch of people who grew up 80-90 years ago vote so nihilistically because they know none of their decisions will affect them.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

They can't read subversive books if they're too busy working.

2 years ago | Likes 697 Dislikes 6

The trick is to get them in jobs before they can read - the GOP

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just because they CAN work doesn't mean they WILL work. Why the GOP thinks this is going to solve anything blows my mind.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This may have been said in jest, but there's a lot of truth there.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

So question. You can relax the laws all you want, but if I'm 14, how am I getting this job? Are my parents applying for me? If they are I assume that throws out any morals of letting the child decide, saying no, and not working at 3 am at a meat packing plant.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's an ugly point. And I'm afraid it might be true.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Thats why they are also pro life, children born into poverty will skip school and will work at low paying jobs

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is the reason things like the Haymarket affair occurred; everyone working and risking their lives doing 16 hour shifts from the age of 8 on.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Overturning Roe v Wade, Republicans have ensured their constant supply of workers.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean, this is literally a big part of the plan. Don't permit people any free time that they might use for intellectual pursuits. Shutdown all liberal higher education, dumb down the curriculum in schools, raise more Trumpist reactionary morons who will vote against their own self interest.

2 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

And the reason their voters don't stand up against is because, while they have been that tyranny and authoritarianism is bad, they've been deliberately mislead into only recognizing militant authoritarianism as tyranny and don't understand the very real attempts at political tyranny that we've been witnessing.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, but now that conditions are so bad the illegal immigrants aren't coming. It's not a coincidence that we started hearing about a worker shortage in 2019.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

on a positive note, conditions in some states in mexico are doing considerably better .. especially since the china trade war .. https://youtu.be/GXT46osICdY

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They are. It should continue to improve too as the cost of producing in Mexico is lower then in China, and that gap is widening.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Been unemployed since March. Applied to at least 32 different places. Been turned away by businesses that are desperate for workers because im asking for a living wage.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Couldn't you accept one of those job offers while looking for a better paying job, the longer you're out of work the less likely they are going to pay you what you're asking for.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I could, save for the fact that those jobs aren't getting back to me because they see my requested salary isn't below minimum wage so they don't reach back out to me, and I'm not willing to compromise my worth to a multi billion dollar Corporation.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ok, so you'd rather sit on your ass until you get a salary worth your salt. Meanwhile better paying jobs are seeing your lack of work history and unemployment as a red flag that you're lazy and unreliable. Pathetic

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Cool man, didn't ask.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You kinda did but take my advice the longer you are unemployed you'll never get the higher paying jobs you're seeking so you might as well bite the bullet and get your ass to work
