Week 2 of 52: Hot Brown

Continuing on my journey of 1 new recipe per year I present to you, the Hot Brown sandwich!

Most of the ingredients are very simple and require little to no work. Here I have sliced turkey (boars head over gold) sliced campari tomatoes, bacon (I chose cherrywood) and a couple thick slices of hearty bread (I chose sourdough).

This is the cheese sauce and the only real part of the recipe that you make from scratch. It is 2tbls of butter melted then 2tbls of flour. Combine those until it's a bubbly golden mixture. Next add 3/4 cups of milk VERY SLOWLY (warmed milk will make a smoother sauce) it will be very thick until you finish adding the milk, but that's what you want. After that is completely mixed for this sauce we added 3/4 cups of chicken broth and a splash of Worcestershire. Bring that mix to a boil until thick enough to coat a spoon then remove from heat. Add in 3/4 cups of cheese (any will do. I used white cheddar) while still hot and stir until a silky smooth, you can add more cheese if you want it cheesier too.

After the cheese sauce you're ready to stack! Bread, turkey, sauce, bacon, tomatoes, then add a healthy portion of grated Parmesan on top. These stacks will go into an oven set on broil for just a few minutes until the cheese melts, keep a close eye though, broiling can burn real quick.

And we have the final product! A little difficult to eat with it being open faced, but, it was delicious and super simple to make! I will be back next week with a new recipe, as always, leave me any notes of how I can make these posts better! Thank you guys!
