There was a landslide in the North Cascades, exposing thousands of fossils

However, the site is hard to find, the trail vanished under new growth and rubble.

Immediately found massive palm tree fossils and evidence of a once tropical Washington. This area is buried under snow most of the year.

Deciduous-looking leaf in an evergreen forest. Many fossils are difficult to make out.

This one would have been an awesome find if it wasn’t missing pieces.

Bone? Blade of some plant? No clue what this is..

Giant ferns (didn’t bring a banana for scale)

Petrified wood?

I know nothing about fossils. Had fun anyway. Any fossil-enthusiasts out there? Let me know if you need directions, I could not find it on Google Maps, had to just wing it.

I am so pumped! Were you near Oso? I’d love to know where this is. I’ve only fossil hunted in Republic and that was so so.

North of Oso. Take the 5 North to Hwy 542/Sunset Dr. Go east until you hit Mosquito Lake Rd. Take the first left past the bridge. 1/2

The road gets bumpy and dusty. When you hit a wide turnout with a sign, turn right until your at a tree spay painted "11". Good luck :) 2/2
