that. that could happen.

Better record this to put on social media before I do anything else. What an idiot.

"I found this animal outside. You know, where animals fucking /are/? Then I took it."

Boy howdy, that's a stupid thing to do.

Her next video...Left that guy in the middle of the road

Squirrels do NOT appreciate rescue efforts. If you must try, at least wear leather work gloves.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ladies and gentlemen, i present to you. The female Clark Griswald

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ha.... hahahaha... HAHA ..... HA! Seriously tho... is the squirrel ok?

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Idiot!!!

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I hear Rabie shots suck.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Bitey fucker.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A fair percentage of Americans are dumb as hell.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

And what have we learned? "Don't fuck with wild animals!"

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's a Ray Steven song about a squirrel going batshit in a church. It's fun!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why bring it into the car?!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

She acts like it’s rare to find squirrels in the middle of the road

3 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Hopes she enjoys her shot series

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Ah I see. I still thought it was standard treatment for people to get the series of shots.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not for small rodents. You usually only get them for rabies vector species bites: bats, raccoons, skunks, foxes, unvaccinated dogs/cats, etc

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Enjoy the rabies shot

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Bubonic plague is more likely

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

But we already have a plague at home!!!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rodents don't really carry rabies.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

No, rodents can carry rabies, but they don’t transmit to humans…

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If they do, they absolutely can transmit it. It's just so incredibly rare that they do.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They can carry rabies (any mammal can), but they just die so soon, they usually don’t have a chance to transmit it…

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nobody take this woman to Yellowstone. She'll be trying to pet the first bison she sees.

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

I am remembering at the Grand Canyon seeing a lady feeding the squirrels next to a sign saying not to do so.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Rabies shot STAT

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Bubonic plague is more likely

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

She mightve saved it from the heat on the asphalt, but you must also respect the animal. They arent just a photo op.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

If that squirrel is unable to handle the temperature while crossing a 30 ft wide slab of pavement, nature needs to take its course.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Uh okay psycho

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's not like rodents are known for biting or anything.

3 years ago | Likes 668 Dislikes 0

How did she not know this would happen?

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Too much TikTok, not enough GoingOutside.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Is GoingOutside that new DLC I keep hearing about? How does one purchase it?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don’t bother, it’s a rerelease. The new one is more expensive, smells terrible, and there’s a chance you could die. 2/10.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's why I say: "no teeth!"

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

My grandfather used to tell a story about him having to kill a squirrel bcuz it wouldn't unclamp it's bite from his brothers thumb.

3 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 2

I know someone’s husband who had the same problem and he had to drown the squirrel in a bucket of water ?

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

then put it in the freezer so we could take it to the vet to make sure it didn’t happen. Fun times

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Now that's horrible.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

… and your great-uncle always showed you the bite scars.

Some solid gold being served up down here in Comment Land today.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hah! I'm going to giggle on that for a minute!

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I remember hearing as a kid that if you're bitten by a squirrel, you need to break a stick behind you to fool it into letting go - that 1/2

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a squirrel wouldn't let go until it heard bone break. That story went around the playground fast - neighborhood was full of squirrels. 2/2

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My uncle had my cousin and I help him remove rocks from a field, and he told us to be careful, telling us about when doing the same thing >

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

a rat jumped out from under one and latched into a man's neck. They could not remove it. He was taken to hospital and even the surgical >

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

staff could not remove it. He died. I followed him up on this a few months ago and he said it was true, he was there. Yeesh.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Well a set of pliers can powder any rats skull and jaw so that cant be accurate

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

From what I remember they couldn't remove the teeth without doing too much damage, they'd obviously removed the rat. He still died.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

>team couldn't remove it. So they sewed it on permanently. Now it's the mitochondria of his cell.

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

1 how tf did you catch a squirrel? 2 why tf did you catch a squirrel? It's a wild animal, a rodent at that

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I think it might have been stunned by a car impact, and left there

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Finally, someone not bringing down the Imgur collective IQ.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

When it gets extremely hot out, a dehydrated squirrel can get very docile. I suppose you could grab one when it’s like that.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Then be kind, give it water and leave it alone.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Maybe she didn't know what was wrong with it, just that it was sick? I mean, still stupid, but at least well intended?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I hate it when people make up these ridiculous narratives that everyone is good natured. She picked up a wild animal to post a fucking 1/

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

tiktok or IG reel. There was no good intention, just wanting fake internet points. Bad behavior under the false appearance of being good.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yes. I know that. I’m just explaining how one MIGHT be able to catch a squirrel.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Gonna want a real quick rabies shot

3 years ago | Likes 481 Dislikes 12

you mean all 16 of them

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Squabies.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

LOL quick

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i mean if she still has the bugger, take it into a vet for testing. It's better then getting a rabies shot in your gut.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

You don't get rabies shots to your gut, you get them in your buttcheek. It's really no big deal as far as shots go, the major hassle

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"No, the rabies vaccine has not been given in the stomach since the 1980s" thanks! TIL again.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

is that they are expensive.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The only way to confirm rabies in an animal is to inspect the brain. And it takes a while, so you generally get rabies shots anyways.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

It takes about a day, two at most. You get results in plenty of time to start shots if needed.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Here in New York State at least.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And of course, the animal dies

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

TIL, thank you.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah man, those humans carry all sorts of deseases.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thank you. So much unwarranted rabies panic.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I mean, of ALL the diseases to have warranted panic, rabies is pretty much THE thing. Effectively 100% kill rate.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most people don't panic every time they get on an elevator just in case it crashes, y'know?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Right, but it's so hard to accidentally get and there's so much bad info(like getting it from squirrels)that it's almost not worth th anxiety

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, you don't have to worry much about rabies, but both squirrels and chipmunks are known to carry Bubonic Plague. Lake Tahoe was closed>

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

>last year because they found chipmunks there carrying the Plague.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Absolutely! But all the rabies fear mongering comments are egregious…

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah but with the wide spread of stupid as expressed by things like AntiVax groups and now Roe v. Wade getting overturned are you surprised?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, it says: "In all cases involving rodents, the [...] health department should be consulted before a decision is made". So ... Maybe.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There’s NEVER been a recorded case of squirrels transmitting rabies to humans: strong proof of not having to get rabies shots…

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sure, fine, but the link provided literally said "ask your local health department". I mean, I'd hate to be Patient Zero for this.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There has never been a proven rabies transmission from squirrels to humans. Small rodents rarely have rabies, almost never.

3 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 6

Sure there's never been a proven case but do you really want to risk it?Personally I try not to have a medical journal case written about me

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Don’t know why you got downvoted: https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/exposure/animals/other.html

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The take away is you should still get a bite looked at by a doctor, even if it's not rabies.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but all these comments about getting rabies shots are egregious…

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I recently learned it's because if a rabid animal gets them they rarely survive. Not any kind of magical rabies protection.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

It has to do with the size of the animal. A tiny rodent would die from being bitten to be infected with rabies.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Why take the chance when rabies can literally kill you.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

American Healthcare System?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A thing that small getting bitten by an animal that could carry it would be dead or severely visibly wounded

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They can carry the bubonic plague.

3 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 5

You're thinking of prairie dogs.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

That’s a tree squirrel in the video, but here in California, ground squirrels are indeed plague vectors.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's very treatable now by medicines you might even have at home. You don't want it though obviously

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not rabies, though: https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/exposure/animals/other.html

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

If it was any other decade, I'd be content to trust "squirrels are not known to transmit rabies to humans" lol

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yep. Humans can also carry stuff like HIV, Covid, hepatitis, herpes...

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fleas* carry bubonic plague.

3 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

That just sounds like squirrels carrying bubonic plague with extra steps.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Squirrels can carry bubonic plague fleas

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Is that really still a thing?

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yes, people still get it. Campgrounds and picnic areas around me often get closed due to plague outbreaks. From squirrel/chipmonk fleas

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Ironically, USA has quite a few bubonic plague cases. Less than Congo, Madagascar and Peru have the most. But USA too!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just last year a 10yr old died in Colorado from the plague. The US has usually less than 10 cases per year or so. Most all of them are west

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

US (Rockies & westward, especially desert SW).

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, and we had a question on it in the Royal Australian College of Physicians' Divisional Written Examination this year, so... Relevant?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(tbh we were confused why we were tested on it. Q was "What is the transmission vector for Yersinia pestis?" - answer is fleas, not rats)

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Australasian
