Was watching an RL Burnside vid and noticed something. There is a bar-like piece of metal near the tuning pegs, just above the ‘nut’.
Any ideas what it might be and it’s purpose?

Think It’s just a string guide, like on Fenders, just dealing with more strings rather than pairs.

I wonder if there was some problem with the ‘nut’ not functioning adequately. My other thought is it changes the sound/tone/timbre?

some musicians used to keep things there like joints and smokes but this looks like a redone string-tree to me.

I like the joint idea.

Is just to keep the strings from popping out of the nut slots
