I see others saying camel, but I think out here they're called "sun spiders" usually. I get small ones very occasionally further north into California a bit too
AAACk!! Camel spider! it's what God made M16s for!!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solifugae they're fast as all get out, and they try to stay in the shade of people or camels, that's why they have such a reputation. I'm not serious about shooting them but Damn! them and giant centipedes just twist my PTSD up.
Camel Spider AKA Wind Scorpion. Large non-venomous bug. Bites hurt, but can't kill you unless you're a bug or a bird. The absolute biggest ones can be upwards of a foot long, but even they can't kill an adult human.
You are correct on the rest but just to add here, they are not aggressive with humans and larger mammals like cats/dogs, etc. They have to be provoked to bite these (see videos on YouTube).
The largest one ever seen was supposedly -just- shy of a foot long. But yeah, you're not gonna see one of those, and if you did, it'd be a world record holder.
I know of three interchangeable names for this arachnid. A sun spider, a wind scorpion, and a camel spider. We have these in Colorado, but I haven't seen one in years.

That's a fuck no

Harmless, non-venomous pest control worker. Arachnid but not a true spider.

Cute.

If you make them mad they rub their face hand pincers and make warning sounds, they also put their arms up like a spider.
But mostly they will just search inside your boot of pant leg for bugs, maybe give a love pinch, but that's about it

If you leave out a plate of mashed flies, with bloody gravy (your blood will be fine) you'll have a friend for life...maybe not a very long life.

That is a Central Mexican Nope.

Looks like a camel spider to me. I am also wrong pretty often, so maybe do a reverse image search on it as well.

Just to update you on the lore, the absolute biggest ones are only about half that if including leg span: https://www.burkemuseum.org/collections-and-research/biology/arachnology-and-entomology/spider-myths/myth-too-many-camel-spider

Do you have a viable link to that foot-long specimen?

They are arachnids but separate from scorpions or true spiders.
