I have an extensive fossil collection. I fucking love fossils - I think it’s super cool to hold something millions of years old. This was once an ORGANISM, that LIVED! *ahem* sorry about the eccentric rambling.

Anyway, this fossil in particular piqued my interest. I typically don’t buy my fossils, I collect them myself - meaning I don’t know what they are, usually. This was found in a limestone slab area in Austin, TX. I don’t know what organism this once was. I thought maybe somebody on Reddit (or Imgur) might?

I did some fancy editing to make the features more visible, but I have shaky hands - so if the picture is too blurry, I can take it again! Side Note: Placing items against a black mouse pad makes them look more professional, it seems lol.

I have no idea how I got here, but here I am. And also, I have one of those too! Found it just outside Kerrville, in Center Point.

It's an oyster: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exogyra

Probably Exogyra ponderosa, if it's out of the Austin Chalk... (your pictures need scale!)

Agh, sorry! I’ll post a scale pic in just one second!
geonerd
Pretty sure that's what it is...but if you ever post fossil pics again, use a scale :)
OlivetheNerd
Definitely will! I couldn’t seem to add an image to my original album, so I’ll say that it’s 3.5inches long. If that makes a difference.

Thanks so much for the help!
