Yes, this sucks. You know what sucks worse? "Tooth/nerve vitality tests." What's that, you may say? When they need to test to make sure a nerve still has vitality, aka is alive and functioning normally. How do they do it? Well you know the liquid used to freeze warts off? Yeah, imagine that. Applied to a tooth. They literally spray a (FLAVORED! mint!) freeze spray on an instrument and then touch teeth in order, refreezing it between each tooth. Imagine biting into ice cream but a 1M times worse.
And to make it look as easy as she does. From the elbows up, just looks like she's doing dishes. I'd have to be so dialed in I'm pretty sure I would look crazy.
I played that Xylophone and Marimba in High School and College. I finally got comfy with 4 mallets towards the end, I couldn't imagine dancing up and down the octaves like that. Glorious to watch.
"Dammit Barbera. I asked for a Hot Dog.. not that I wanted you to be a Hot Dog. I'm never coming to your cookouts again. Should have asked for a glizzy."
In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes that same rib twice in succession yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we, to believe that this is some sort of a, a magic xylophone or something?
I'd say that it's probably easier to learn tuned percussion idiophones than it is to learn keyboard instruments and as we see here you can elevate your skill level above and beyond the norm.
I remember playing "bells" in elementary school and it was easy to get the basics down and fun to play.
I play oboe, so in high school marching band we oboists were stuck in percussion. Shouldn't march with a double reed. Turns out xylophone and marimba are fun as hell, I loved ever second of it. I miss playing, even over 20 years later. So, that's the rational!
Xylophones are cool though. You don't need the lung power like you do with wind instruments. It's not as loud as other percussion instruments so it's easier to practice. Not as comman as most strong instruments.
You don’t pick the xylophone, you pick percussion and then just have to learn them all. Most percussionists I know were not stoked when they had to start learning all the pitched instruments. But they get over it in time.
Generally speaking, she is probably not specialized exclusively in xylo. Classical percussionists train an assortment of instruments, and all of the keyboard instruments overlap quite heavily. If she can shred xylo like this, I have no doubt that she has solid chops for, at the very least, marimba and vibraphone as well. But she is also likely adept at several other percussion instruments, like snare, timpani, auxiliary instruments like tambourine, triangle, bongos, things like that.
So the way I used it and the “legal” definition is different. I used it as a synonym for disparaging, the actual is: search for and publish private or identifying information about (a particular individual) on the internet, typically with malicious intent. "hackers and online vigilantes routinely dox both public and private figures"
In elementary school they had us play every single instrument at least once during music class. I still remembering seeing that "it just clicked" moment in a few of my classmates. Sometimes its as simple as that.
Zappa had a lot of xylophone and the like in a lot of his music, mostly because Ruth Underwood was so dang good at percussion and it would have been a shame not to have her play as much as possible.
Must not listen to ragtime then, xylo solos were a pretty big staple for rags back in the day. Def not music for everyone, but if youre in the xylo mood, Id reccomend checking out anything by George Hamilton Green. Ragtime Robin is a fun one.

Sorry lady, I've just been watching Ruth Underwood in concert, 1974. You ain't gunna beat that.

Ok, she's probably not quite in Underwood's league, but she's no slouch either. Honestly, I think Ruth would enjoy that performance.

I now that there is a lot of 3/4beats played, but still this sounds very...off beat to me. I bet she is skilled, but it feels out of rhythm.

So incredibly talented. Hope they get to make a lot more music, and such lucky people.tp.get to experience it.

That is world class skill.

Yeah she's real deal amazing. The musical notes at the bottom are ridiculous tho, they're nowhere near reality.

Good chance it's a practiced cover. If she wrote it it's very cool. If she improvised it, it's world class.

I would love to know the rational in a child’s head when they pick the xylophone as an instrument. Especially with all the other choices available.
Not doxxing her she is bad ass and I doubt I have been as passionate about anything before.

I'm sure I've heard more, but off the top of my head the Violent Femmes have a xylophone solo in their song Gone Daddy Gone

Also, there's a lot of vibraphone jazz out there. Notably the Modern Jazz Quartet.
