When I say I don't like country music I mean the kind now that's often about right wing politics, and sounds like pop with a fake twang added. Ones like Willy Nelson and Dolly Parton are always good.
... It's always the books. Never the band uniforms or the way Dollywood provides work for so many people... Or the way she funded one of the early COVID vaccines. It's like there's a giant glorious cake but people only ever want to talk about the cherry on the top.
Katy Perry got to space for ten minutes on a tourist pass and pretends it empowers women or makes her an astronaut, while the government in the country she belongs to way back on the ground is actually erasing the histories and accomplishments of real-life empowered women, and female astronauts.
I don't want to say Katy Perry is a terrible person, but she missed the point by so much I almost feel like she should qualify for a disability over it. She never had to struggle and doesn't understand.
What amazes me about Dolly is she seems to be one of the few famous people equally loved by both sides, liberal and conservative. I guess she’s just that good of a person that nobody can take issue with it.
Honestly, yes. I hate that it's some giant ridiculous PR stunt of a rich person doing a rich person thing, but like, at least it's an interesting rich person thing? Nothing chafes more than the unfathomably wealthy being pathetic basic bitches with their mountain of gold. "Oooo look at me, I bought YET ANOTHER MEGAYAUGHT because 5 wasn't enough!"
It's also .... I get it, ya know. It's not like she spent billions making a spaceship from scrap, there's a company selling trips to space and she bought a ticket for a price that is, for her, honestly not bad. If I could buy a ticket to space and back for like 300 bucks I'd at least think about it.
It's not even like she was the only passenger, that space trip was happening with or without her. 1/2
I'd certainly feel bad about buying a plane to fly me and only me to the Grand Canyon, but I wouldn't feel bad getting a ticket for a plane going to Vegas that was going to go there any way and had other passengers on it.
I wouldn't say it's some great thing that happened, and I get the argument that space tourism shouldn't be a thing at this moment in time because it's super wasteful, but I get why she'd want to go.
No argument, Dolly is an amazing force. But this version of Jolene just gives me the best chills, and radically changes the whole vibe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMrfM711vXI
Katy could have said “fuck it. I went to space because I could afford it and I wanted to.” She didn’t say that. She pretended it “empowered women”. Fuck her.
Why would any reasonable adult care at all about what she says and does in the first place? Y'all are losing your minds over nothing. If this were the 90's the only people reacting to this would be the type of person who reads the tabloids. Get a grip, everyone.
What about lending her name to a dogshit billionaire as PR and engaging in space tourism, a profoundly environmentally destructive venture designed only to enrich said billionaire even more? And pretending shes empowering women while not saying shit about the US govt deleting the history of women in STEM for govt sites?

Also, Dollywood is a brilliant theme park.

I don’t feel it necessary to list everything that woman has done to make my point but you are welcome to do so.
eetsumkaus
Dolly isn't exactly a power broker though, so kids learning doesn't really affect her very much. She gets paid for her music.

Oh the republicans are indeed trying to figure out how to turn the imagination library into their own propaganda machine.

I'm not a christian. But Dolly Parton sure as hell is.

There are surprisingly few in a country full of people claiming to be Christian.

Less Elon, more Dolly!
haki23
When I was little kid I adored her. She had big mom energy she sent out to the world, and I needed someone liker her in my life at that point
custardandfishfingers24
I still adore her, and I'm almost her age!
BillyM00n
You used to adore her. You still do, but you used to, too. +1
haki23
That's true. She still is an amazing person!

Dolly is the epitome of "be the change you want to see in the world".
SubiBryant
Bro, you had me until the Katy Perry shit. Dolly is stand alone, especially for some of the reasons you mentioned.
MentalUproar
Dolly is a classy bitch. I never claimed I was.
PileOfWalthers
It's a comparison. Here is a rich as fuck singer and that's what she does with her money; here's another, and that's what she does with it.
ahorseelbowdeepinme
So... you're pro-katy Perry flying to "space"?
wandermanspacebot
This is so stupid. Everyone should be pro- not giving a shit about what celebrities do because it has zero effect on you.
MentalUproar
It’s not so much that I’m pro rich people going to space. I’m just against them returning.

I get disappointment with her participation. I'm specifically confused by the focus on her comments.
