In another life, I was in the army and wore "non-standard uniforms" meaning whatever allowed us to blend in with the units we were training. But, our kit (helmets, vests, weapons) were all standard. Same color, style, etc. It really baffles me that I have not seen any standardization in the videos. Like you said, surplus store gear - black, brown, green vests, all different weapons, different placement of names and different ID patches (police, ICE, immigration, etc). It's too easy to replicate

Herding dogs, specifically Border Collies, are a good example. They bred an compulsive urge to herd into these dogs. To the point that they will herd pretty much anything so their brains will release dopamine. They are mentally ill by design through selective breeding. We can have herding dogs without this level of extreme. Drug sniffing dogs can be exposed to some pretty horrific stuff. Search and rescue dogs routinely take pretty gnarly injuries. Retirement for many means being put down.
