Why?

Trying again because I failed at making my point the first time.
I only use Imgur on PC, and I constantly see this format make the FP.

Yeah, I'm old and not "Not hip to the scene," or whatever.
But how are people okay with this format?
We started off with horizontal media for Satan's sake.
Then we got vertical media to better suit smartphones.
Now we have this.

Horizontal media, in a vertical frame.
Considering how often I see "Nice cropping shitlord," I'd figure more people would be against this.

If that weren't bad enough, now that "deadspace" is being willed with a bunch of useless crap.
How often this format makes the FP means I'm obviously in the wrong.
