Why do sound guys always say “one, two, one, two”? Because if they could count to three they’d be lighting guys...I joke, I joke.

So I've been hidden away in the Bat-Cave doin' my thing. A bit of a backlog in sharing, I thought I'd take a moment and introduce you to my most recent piece. This 1960s Pearce Simpson Radio Microphone came my way in pretty rough shape I was captivated by the history recorded in every chip of paint. While received dead and gone, he was also covered in grime and burnt to a crisp. At least it was quick. I decided to celebrate this hard earned finish and rebuild this handsome fellow as a Warm White LED accent lamp, repurposing the onboard potentiometer mount into a modern PWM dimmer and the radio Key switch into a fun momentary or toggled power switch. Back in from the cold-cold night, this Black Cat is now shining bright!

Purchased in moderate disrepair the finish of this fellow wasn't too too bad. Lots of dirt, lots of grime but the deterioration wasn't too far gone. And the paint finish with all of it's chips and nicks I thought was a great testament to a hard-life lived.
Lets go with that!

Dirty birds get a soakin' this stuff is nasty. Thankfully not cigarette tar, I just did a couple of those that were wayyyyyy bad and I may be scared for life at how nasty, sticky, and stinky microphones get after decades of living with a smoker. Regardless, EVERYTHING gets sanitized!

The deeper I dig the more dirt I find. Circa 1960s puts 65-ish years of grime on this. The original power switch is found to be in good mechanical condition after a deep clean and I decide to repurpose this for a momentary power switch to activate the LED lamp. The built in Toggle allows the same switch to supply a constant ON position. Almost like it was meant to be???

So here's our guy, SO fresh and SO clean clean! Cleaned and polished for literally hours and hours, this 65 year old gent has what you could call 'good bones'. What was left of the microphone diaphragm was scooped out and replaced by a custom hand-made bracket to mount the new Bi-pin 12v LED Lamp socket.

All wiring replaced with new and paired with a flicker free solid state PWM dimmer, the warm white lamp is diffused by both an internal optic film and the original metal windscreen grille.

Are you the more 'Mild' less 'Wild' type. No probs. He makes as spiffy a display OFF as much as he does ON. But if you enjoy a romantic candlelight vibe this may be your jam for movie night or the sexiest 'one off' night light you've ever seen!

Nicks, scratches, and chips in place, the paint is all completely polished and has a shine that has been missing for some time now. Ready for showtime!

Welcome back Mr. Simpson, or shall we call you Pearce? Nice to see you on your feet again!

MMMM. Sexy on the backside too. Work it.
