I feel bad that she has to keep working at a place where when she gets injured the manager literally appears to not give any fucks.
For clarification she was still able to go to urgent care to get it looked at. But had to resume working after going to urgent care.
Also she is an urgent care vet tech so unfortunately it is part of the risk while working at her job. She doesn't blame the animal either because it wasn't feeling well.
Edit: didn't think this would honestly get alot of attention. So I'm gonna make a small update to clarify some things further.
1. Yes she went to urgent care right away
2. According to the animal records it was vaccinated for rabies so no issues there
3. Not entirely sure if there is a lawsuit or not for having to return back to work.
4. Many of her co workers asked why she was back at work after getting bit
5. It was the main managers day off so that manager could have actually done her job and gone in to give my gf someone to cover when noone else was available.
6. Yes she was cleared for work by urgent care but getting bit by a large dog hurts bad. So having the rest of the day off should literally just be a given.

I'd contact a Ambulance chaser _ attorney. I hate to be opportunistic like that. But your girls employer has a duty to keep her safe being bitten by a dog tells me that they neglected that duty. furthermore they didn't let her get medical attention what if the dog has rabbies? I'm certain a "labor law / workmans comp etc" attorney would take the case for a portion of the proceeds.

"I have to go to the doctor for this bite. Cover my shift and you'll need to file a worker's comp report for this. I'll keep you posted."

Exactly! I was assaulted by a psych pt on the job. I was an agency nurse, the charge nurse was a brand new hire/graduate. Informed her she had to fill an incident report & send me to ER for exam. Poor girl freaked out, supervisor pulled this line. I stated np I’ll just go home then. Tune was changed rapidly. Supervisor was pissed she had to stay with new grad until I returned. Explained after it was for both of our safety. Protect yourself first.

"Wouldn't let her"...That's why the system sucks. People will be told to ignore injury and then fall in line like slaves instead of standing up for anything. Why should the system change? It has no incentive. The people who claim to hate it don't pressure it at all. You get injured? You LEAVE. You don't ask permission. You tell them you're leaving then follow through. 'Oh but I'll lose the job.' -- It's a job that would see you dead on call before healthy on leave. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

You'll be back tomorrow at the usual time, right?

When I worked KFC it really messed with my stomach and one time I did not make it to the bathroom in time. I told the on duty manager I needed to go home and explained. She said along we really need a cook for tonight and there's no one to call I reiterated I had shit my pants she was still not thrilled so I made a deal if she didn't clock me out for the hourish it took to walk home and change I'd come back in but I was also gonna half ass my closing duties. She agreed so thats what I did.

Wife is vet lab tech and use to be a vet tech. She needs to get checked to see if she needs a tetanus shot.

what a shitty employer

Personal injury lawyers were practically made for this.

Did you make an update?

OK. So rabies wasn't an issue? I've rarely ever just gone home from the day if I had gotten injured, because none my injuries were that serious. There's getting nipped by a dog, and getting your face chewed off by a dog. I feel like the girlfriends was probably the former situation.
MrJ0ker
There were 2 nice punctures in her arm because unfortunately it was a pittie and now even more unfortunate it has it on the dogs record
zylokun
This is not "Wouldn't let her go home" this is "Call an ambulance and they can figure it the fuck out."
miertam
Send her to the ER as soon as possible and file a workers comp claim. Explain to the doctor that management refused to let her get treatment and you don't have any info on the animal. The manager might. This is both a health issue and an animal control issue.

why would you let them walk all over you like that. just leave. if they're that short on coverage they won't fire you.
thelonepig
My casino job would absolutely fire me for leaving.
aThingWithAKeyboard
So bit by large dog. Pain. Pain = pain killers. Painkillers = do not drive, etc because judgment is impaired. Judgement impaired = business now at legal risk for bad choice of employee forces to work while high. Shit manager from both a human and business liability perspective, should be fired immediately.
augifinn
Workers Comp Laws say she could have gone home with pay for the remainder of her shift
FakeFlagger
So she is a vet? It got looked at and was deemed fine? So what is the problem here exactly?
Pokegeologist
I nearly sliced one of my fingers off on the job and they wouldn't let me take off to get stitches because I had to run the front counter. It didn't close up for almost 4 days and was a miracle it didn't get infected. At another job, I broke a hand and the manager had a bitchfit because I interrupted him during a personal call to get released to the ER and I nearly passed out while getting drug tested because of company policy. He fired me for it, which opened an investigation from corporate.
chittychittybangbanglovesustoo
Isn't that against the law in the U.S?!
thepicklebucket
If you're not willing to put your job on the line for yourself, don't expect your manager to do it for you. Just Say No.
marquettegoldeneagles
Workers comp claim at the very minimum! Employers don't care about workers' well-being. (At lead none in my life time so far. If you do, that's amazing.) Don't let them off easy. This is a good fight.
Ebo352
Sad she didn't feel confident enough in her employment to just go home for the day
Oneofthemdaftpunks
Act rabid & start biting everyone in the office until I get a paid day off.
wildwestpb
She needs to go to the ER, contact animal control to quarantine the animal for rabies, contact the police file a police report on it, and get a lawyer to go after the company since if the dog was rabid, delaying treatment can have negative repercussions on her.

Devil is in the details: what does GF do for a living, was the bite animal or human, how deep was the bite, where on GF is location of bite, how soon after the incident was GF denied medical care, what are the policy & procedures of the job for work injury, did she seek medical attention at the end of her workday?

USA is a third world country masquerading as a first world country.

First world country means NATO block; third world country means neutral country outside of the Cold War rivalry. Current USA is most definitely at the heart of the new Cold War and thus still a first world country.

Does she now have radioactive dog powers? Have you tried throwing a stick? Asked her to Sit?

People have rights. Shitty employers don’t care about your rights. Make them.
Skibert89
Go to an attorney. If she sustained injuries during duty hours/ on the clock, that is an insurance claim. Do not let that employer off easy. She will need to get the bite checked. You should call an attorney before even seeing a doctor, ESPECIALLY since it seems like her employer isn't going to send her to a doctor on their own dime without being forced
Skibert89
2nd note: most states have worker's compensation lawyers who only cost you a cent if she loses the case, so money should not be a barrier here. If she was at work when this happened, I would be shocked if a lawyer wouldn't happily take on a case. Feel free to direct message me if you need help locating lawyers in your area.
Source: I've had to file personal injury claims twice in two different states. One as worker's comp, one for an auto accident

So I don't mean to be an asshole but I'm not sure why everyone's saying she has a lawsuit. It's sucky, but it's also assumed that vet techs get bit. Urgent care could have said she was unfit to work, but they cleared her to go back. The employer presumably took precautions (you said she hasn't been bitten in years and they sent her to Urgent right away) so I don't know why everyone thinks she has anything to sue over. It's just a shitty day at work?
Cucumberclouds
It did make a lot more sense knowing she’s a vet tech.
Skibert89
I see. What kind of agreement does she have regarding injuries like this? I am very curious as to how the employer navigates worker's compensation with assumed risk like that
MrJ0ker
Truthfully I have no idea. Unfortunately she also got bit again this time by a kitten when she had to start working again when she eased up on its scruff when trying to wrap it in a towel. She said fuck it at that point and just kept working. Last time she got bit was over 2 years ago.
PineappleLoopsBrOether
Did you look at legalshield yet? Do it
PineappleLoopsBrOether
Listen to scoski, and don’t be afraid to have the free consultation. Lawyers like this work on commission or deferred payments if they think they can win your case. FIRST go to legalzoom and legalshield. You can talk to a lawyer for like $50 to figure out what to do.
miertfoglaltmindenfelhasznalonev
Idk if that was the reason for the second bite but I’d be VERY pissed at the manager if I got bit bc I couldn’t properly restrain the animal due to pain / distraction of the first bite and being forced to keep going.
Skibert89
I worked with retired working dogs for an organization that tried to re-home some of the gentler ones. We had a bite clause in the agreement with very detailed processes if, and really when, we got bit. Only happened to me once where it broke through my clothing and drew blood, but yeah. It was a lot of paperwork and doctors
thelonepig
I'm curious if they let people leave work when they got bit? I agree it's sucky to have a loved one get hurt, but it's assumed. If a paramedic gets punched, they still finish the shift. It's a bummer, but not a lawsuit. Why is Imgur so litigious?
