Got this exact feeling at the cinema recently when during the ads a CGI Harrison Ford wearing a leather jacket, hat and whip shows up and the teenagers behind me go "Oh, Jumanji!", then when it says Indiana Jones, they go "Huh? What's that?". That's when I learned that today's youth is uneducated and spoilt.
So you're saying you want the same experience every time with no evolution to it and gatekeep it from newcomers? This is equivalent to a boomer comic about kids not knowing cursive. Be more open to change
I don't think they were saying that at all. The comic was about how easy it is to feel old and out of touch if you don't keep up with current trends in lingo, media and youth culture.
Thanks for the encouragement. I’m just afraid it’s going to include all these new popular series and not enough for us old timers who like shows when plot mattered.
I think you should go, if you're into the scene. A) I have never, in decades, heard anyone deride someone for having a shirt based on old anime. B) While the average con-goer is going to be somewhat younger than you, if you avoid places where young people may be, you're going to turn into a shut in.
There's good and crap and everything in between from since the first mangaka talked to an animator. It's just a matter of not leaning on trends -or- nostalgia. Bring it on!
I’m in my 40s and still go every year and still feel the same sense of wonder and joy I did the very first time I went those many moons ago. With all of the hell that life has to offer, I’m thankful I can still feel that way about something as seemingly silly as an anime con. It’s a bright spot in my year and I love seeing people cosplay from shows I’ve seen over the past year.
I went to a con last summer, didn't have this issue. Yeah there was merch for a lot of newer anime, but I recognized some from the early to mid 00's. Found a booth for a semi-local anime group, one of the guys looked mid 30s, otehr guy late 20s. Parents were walking around with their kids, and the parents would have anime shirts on. TL:DR - it's only weird if you look to make it weird.
They got too tolerant. Before fandom was niche and nerdy, cons were amazing. Finding people who understood the same passions, who we could be ourselves with. So everyone became welcome. Fandoms merged. Games comics sci fi anime cartoons. "Adult" panels became a thing. And the worst representatives of each fandom sprouted and grew. The B.O., the ass cracks, the bad hygiene. the need for look dont touch signs. The creepy levels of obsessiveness for a fandom. I gave up about 10 years ago.
Legit was looking for a similar comment on Moonrise. I just started episode 1, and the English acting is... lacking, but I watch/listen while at work so I can't have subtitles or else I'll have no clue what's going on, but as far as ep 1 goes, it has potential. I try not to bother with others opinions since everyones tastes are different but they seem more negative for this one. Animation is good though, so if you can drag yourself through Demon Slayer, this one has less obnoxious characters
I'll watch on my phone with ear buds while eating lunch but leave it playing while I get up to wash my dishes or minimize it while i do something else on my phone. It's pretty rare to miss something important when anime these days holds your hand and lets you know what a character is doing/thinking literally because the character is explaining it through dialogue. REPEATEDLY. No thinking or paying attention needed. And if I do miss something, i just go back those few minutes and rewatch
Figured as much, but I'm far too easily distracted to do that (when work gets tough I even pause the music). And I like animation, and am studying Japanese. So my anime backlog looms large.
I have a pretty mindless job at the moment so I really don't need to pay much attention to what I'm doing. But I guess if you're studying Japanese, watching shows in Japanese would be more beneficial. I've mostly put shows on during my lunch break where i can watch uninterrupted but will put something I've seen before, like Brooklyn 99, on while I work since I already know what's happening.
I always found his invisibility cloak hilariously redundant. "Lemme just go invis, they never find me!" as his unfurls his 20 foot long sniper scope that DOESNT turn invisible.
He would be harder to shoot at, if there wasn’t a big metal pipe leading directly to his location. Camouflage only works when there’s more than one place to be.
Ironically it would work fairly well on Vash, who wouldn’t shoot because it would risk killing the guy. Anyone else? Well, that’s where the trigger he’s using is. Just going to shoot in that open space where he would have to be sitting to actually use his gun.

Eh, I don't care what people think. If you ever feel old at a convention just look around and I guarantee you'll see people older than you there.

It's probably someone who doesn't watch seasonals, instead constantly rewatching old shows.

I got back from an anime con (also a 2 alarm fire at a restaurant across the street from the event) and I feel this

Blame their parents for not educating them on the classics.
Hatsodoom
Hey every now and then you see someone representing the classics. Actually met someone cosplaying as Tenchi's grandfather once.

I went to a shit ton of cons in my 20s, but the people decades older than that were just ... off.

I’ve never been to an animecon, and as a person in their 40s, I thank you for this warning.

go to one, but go to a smaller one that has things that interest you. experience the rest if you can.

I've heard that has improved in the last ten years or so. You might smell a lot of pot instead of hikikomori stale sweat.

So 10 years ago?
wadatahmydamie
It got a decent remake. Don’t go in expecting the same story and you’ll like it just fine
quzar
It's a double downer because they're referencing a quite recent remake that is now already passe.
ThatRaccoonGuy
The original was relevant for over a decade. The shitty reboot is considered old within the year. When will big corps learn?

They did a remake
Dstar99a
You didn’t watch the new show if you’re calling it a remake…..
wadatahmydamie
Pretty solid remake too, though I didn’t like the animation as much
Righteousdew
I felt like the 3D animation lended itself well to Vash's wacky movements.
wadatahmydamie
I agree with that much of it. My issue was the lack of line work which is a typical casualty of 3D animation
