Five years. It took them five years to take back their promise of "you'll never have to uograde to a new Windows again" and announce that 10 would be EOLd in another five. That's how much a promise by Microsoft is worth.
Please, anyone who knows MS knew that this "Last version of Windows" thing was BS from the start. It was just an attempt to "we can do it too!" with MacOS and most Linux distros.
Don't forget that that Microsoft is also dropping support for Intel 8th, 9th, or 10th-gen CPUs with the Windows 11 24H2 update. Good luck staying relevant.
I have 64 PCs on my Domain which are reported to be incapable of running Windows 11, due to M$'s arbitrary restrictions. I know godamn good and well they *can* run 11, as I have used Rufus to deactivate all the CPU, UEFI, and TPM checks. But I am using this as a push to the CEO-level to begin getting off Microsoft. Ubuntu is 99% of what my users need. Surf the web, open files, email. Sadly, we are locked into Exchange/Outlook, and there just ain't an open source equivalent to Outlook.
Even after Win10 support dies I'll still use it. My old potato laptop has Windows 7 and it still works. As long as you aint stupid and have some form of anti-virus you're fine.
Work has been insane for the past couple of years, performance thanks to OneDrive integration makes it almost unbearable just using Excel, notepad and c:\temp.
I've been using libre office (solo and personal projects) and Google suite (file sharing + collaboration projects), can't get cucked by OD if your tools have no integration for it!
I've talked about a specific item to my coworker, really random. 5 minutes later, ads appeared on his Facebook feed on his phone for the item. I tried testing if his phone was listening by saying "black leather high heels" repeatedly, but no dice
PopOS is another good one for people used to windows. System76 is the company behind it and they do hardware too so you can get a device with it pre installed if your are not technical. That said with Valve and Proton the barriers to transition are getting easier and easier every day IMHO.
I've got Windows 11 on my work computer, and the start menu is terrible, but there rest is marginal improvements over 10, and nothing that I have a problem with. But the start menu, did I mention that? It's terrible. While I know how to work around the restrictions, I won't be installing it on my aging home PC.
It’s like they didn’t learn from the vista fiasco. Windows 10 was like the glorious return of the start menu. And now they’ve done away with it again? I haven’t used 11, so I don’t know
I was shoehorned into 11 at work and lost my shit when I couldn’t put the start menu where I wanted it. Then I remembers I don’t have to suffer with it, and downloaded a new shell for windows. Now it’s best of both worlds
I don't trust the circumvention tools. Not because of the tool makers, but because of Microsoft. They could easily release an update that breaks my circumvention because I would rather not generate eWaste
Fuck Microsoft. They bought a company that gave me a ton of clients and tanked it on purpose. We don't know why, general assholery? It took a year to climb back to the same income. I'll try any other product but theirs
Windows 10 is my last version of Windows and still in use. When they stop security patches I'll have to switch to dual boot, so I can play games. Dreading setting that up. Switching will be annoying.

This coming from the same company that brought you: 640k is all you'll ever need

I feel it needs 640K to run notepad these days

Honestly I'd be impressed if that's all it took.

Because they were wrong. This behemoth of a company has one cool trick. The ability to make money while being completely wrong about 70% of the time.

Last version of Windows I'll be using, so it seems pretty accurate to me.

Been off Windows for a bit now, will never use it again. Teaching my oldest how to use linux too.

Migrate off Microsoft. They've been siphoning up your data, even when told not to.

And you know this how? Not going to go just coz you said so

I only use Microsoft Windows operating system for two things: Word processing and playing video-games.
I use a chromium laptop for internet browsing. (And my phone). That being said, google and apple are literally just as bad.

Trust me, Linux now is better for gaming than Windows.

Wipe it and install an open Linux distribution.

Linux. I'm hoping steamOS gains more notice. Other platforms are good too, Debian, Mint, ubuntu (if you don't mind corporate involvement).
JamesTDG
Bazzite is inspired by SteamOS

There is usually an open source tool for just about anything.

It will be the last version of Windows I use - so write that down

Mine was XP. Or at least the last one I used voluntarily.

Go to http://startisback.com/ to fix your start menu. And WinAero Tweaker (free) fixes the rest. https://winaero.com/winaero-tweaker/amp/

Thanks for that! I couldn’t remember the name of the aero one!

Win11 LTSC to dodge the restrictions also 😉. Also, Win11 sucks ass. Just a different set of problems. I'll be sticking with 10 as long as I can.

They're bastards. When win 10 dies, I'll just be running Linux on my hardware. When they said win 10 was the final version, I saw it as a compromise.
