This is all based on the Q-pack tacoshell 3d printable proton pack. I'll add a link here after I make the post. I am trying to do all the electronics myself to save money while getting a good level of fidelity and functionality.
Edit: Q pack files - https://github.com/mr-kiou/q-pack
I'd recommend the guide as it helps a lot with assembly. I am annotating my copy with the intent to help clarify some areas but it's very good value given the print files are free and it's so helpful.
I need to design a pop mechanism that fits in here as the q pack one is twist-based and that's not how I'd like mine to work.

The decals arrived while I was on holiday and will be weathered more to fit in better. They're from Moby Sign Co.

The knobs and such were resin printed by JLC. €50 ISH all in vs €250 for a local company. I wish I could have used local peeps but a 500% difference is significant.

The switch works although the "pull IR" flashing green mode on the LED is mysteriously dim. That's ok though, I'll rework it sometime.

I need the lenses laser cut but that should be all that's left!

The knobs turn but don't do anything ;)

Black inside to keep it from being distracting. I will make a safety hat for the capacitor what with it being next to my eyes.

I used boiled water and a careful hand to pre-bend the nylon tubes so they don't stress their fittings too much. 30 sec to 1 min in the heat while being bent then a quench in cold water to set the new shape. The cables are from Ben of Kent props.
Edit: Diplomatically speaking apparently Ben of Kent is known in the community as having some issues when it comes to pre-built items and assemblies. The raw parts I got were mostly fine but you may consider another source first if possible. Double check your source's reputation before ordering stuff!
Note: you must widen the two openings for the large hose by about 1 mm or so total (measure it if you can) or they won't fit. I had to sand the tube which sucked for one end and made a cylindrical magnetised plug for the vertical part in the above image. I just put a ring washer stack of 3 at the bottom for the magnet to grab and allow access to the machine screw.

There's still electronics to finalise, a frame to buy, a motherboard to collect and weathering to do but it's getting there! Hopefully ready for Halloween! I have the overalls and belt etc already. Will share when it's all done.

Saw the cap right next to your eye and winced a little. Glad to see you are aware in the comment that followed.

Yeaaaah I will probably swap the board out for a microcontroller based solution after October to remove the risk entirely!

Nice. Be sure to take a look at Adam Savage's channel, he's got a bunch of highly detail shots of the original packs in his videos.
Ratchet600
Yeah! He was a large source of reference and ideas for sure. He's a bit of a personal hero in as healthy a way as is possible as I'm sure he is for many! So many wonderful makers out there!
ThomasTheWankEnglne
does it have the sound!?
Ratchet600
It will! I have some video of the sound system in development. It needs tweaking but it's pretty much there! I need to try to seamlessly tie it in with the light show. Might use the two cores of the pi to each do audio and lights respectively

Looks very nice, lots of cool details everywhere! About the lenses, what are you going to laser with them? You mentioned laser cutting - I'm just curious :-)
Ratchet600
Probably acrylic just because that's what my workplace has in their makerspace. They don't necessarily have the colours I need yet though so there's that haha. I might get some coloured translucent sheets and attach them to the front of I'm desperate.
SterlingArcherSecretAgent
Ah so that's what you meant! I didn't realize there were no lenses in there, so I thought you might engrave a pattern in the lens holder or something. Also yes, acrylic sounds perfect for this, I cut a lot of that on my own laser cutter, such a good material for laser cutting!
Ratchet600
I'd love to have a laser cutter when I have enough space! The new Elegoo phaecda seems cool as a first unit. A friend just got one and I'm interested in seeing how she finds it to use!

Mine is a 100w CO2 industrial model, it's awesome but big and expensive.
I bought my house specifically because it has a big workshop area for such machines.
Love my hobbies 😅
