If you're sitting next to him, you better be reading the pace notes

Only if the pace notes read AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Rally drivers are seriously lunatics. Like they must be missing the part of their brain that says “this should scare the shit out of you it’s a bad idea”. They’re nuts! I love it

8 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Most racing driver have no imagination of what would happen. And when they do they start rebelling, like after Senna's death. Or like Walter Röhrl has putt it: "My friends said that i would be dead if i crashed it, (the Lancia with fake rollcages etc) I answered them that i didn't plan to crash it." Driving a 325hp ground to ground missle with less then 960kg. (960kg/2,116 lb was the minimum weight, but it was rumored that often it drove lighter).

6 left long followed by 4 right. Do not cut

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Shouldn't there be someone in the passenger seat yelling directions and crying?

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Enni’s there, but you can’t hear her because her voice has gone ultrasonic.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's crazy. Full lunatic.
Impressive and highly skilled, but still lunatic.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

OK, another comment after calling this driver a lunatic...

Why am I mesmerized by this? Why do I keep watching this and loving it?
You bet I am envious that I will never drive like this and enjoy it! So much fun!

Those trees would hurt

Cow!

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not even listening to his co-pilot

I had one of those Dirt video games and played it for about a year until I got really good. Then, I didn’t play for a year. When I tried to play it again, it was like I had never played the game.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The bumper-cam makes this look faster and more impressive than it really is. Don't get me wrong, WRC drivers are incredibly talented - far beyond my skills - but I can play Dirt Rally 2.0 and put in a mediocre performance, and then watch the replay from the bumper cam and it seems like I'm the next Sebastian Loeb.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone else kept waiting for a cow to cross the road?

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If the throttle isn't fully open, then you're losing time

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is how one drives when she says that her parents are gone for the weekend.....

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've always wanted to be the passenger.
"Half gas left right at 30 meters. Brake Left 2 meters push thru past left 33 meters. Uptake right 44 degrees two meters. Downswing 2 meters left brake 66 meters."

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who remember the Finn driver who kidnapped a homeless guy cuz he needed a navigator in the passenger seat?

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He blinks once 16 seconds in

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This type of cheating is ruining WRC

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s better to watch with commentary.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every time I watch these I wonder how the fuck they ever have traction. These drivers are insane!

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The tires, suspension, and brakes are almost as expensive as the rest of the car.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wanted to try this, but then when I saw what was involved, fuck that! Gotta have more balls than brains for this!!!

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I imagine amateur rally racing a bit less intense. But you'll likely still need a car with a full cage

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rather, you need training and practice. Then, you're just dancing with the car, and it's a beautiful feeling.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's inverted so he turns the steering wheel to the left and go to the right

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is that Travis Pastrana? If so, that dude doesn't half send shit

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sami Pajari

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Canberra?

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sami, you have to listen to my calls. I beg you.
Sami, you're breaking the car!

8 months ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 2

I wonder what Samir is up to now? Whatever it is, I hope it isn’t driving.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We will not finish!

T-R-R-R-RIPLE CAUTION!

Still far and away the coolest racing event I’ve ever seen live. I’ve seen GT1 cars backflip and f1 cars at full song but watching these guys thread a cattle gate at 80 sideways on gravel is so cool.

8 months ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 1

Oh dear god!

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Juha handled the slip and was back in control in 0.2 secs though.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. Seems fairly straight forward to keep a car going where it's pointed on a track with consistent grip that you get to go again and again. Going hard on a course where you get a practice and then full tilt while rhe grip level changes frequently and the quickest way around a corner is sideways seems to add a whole other level of skill.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That was a very specific picture you painted there. And a very accurate one, too.
Rally is just so cool to watch.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Good drivers have dead flies on the side windows." - Walter Röhrl, WRC Champion '80 & '82

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That roll cage and helmet, and thirty-seven-point harness, aren't going to keep the inertia from getting in if you hit one of those trees.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Actually, they do a really good job of keeping injuries minimal. The safety of rally cars has skyrocketed since the 80s and 90s

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't even check his phone once.

8 months ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 0

Wimp

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Must have a good playlist queued up already.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This isn’t a public road/school zone. Why would he check his phone?

8 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

To see how many snowballs his post got

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Dude doesnt even blink

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what the co-driver is for

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is the ballsiest form of racing, hands down. Nascar and F1 don't even come close.

8 months ago | Likes 404 Dislikes 3

The racers and the spectators are mental! Lol

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 months ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Yeah... That's pretty much annual "going to the summer cabin and you start pairiedogging on the last 5km of the trip"

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Even more exciting is when you're running late so you get to do the whole fun bit at the end in the dark, everyone in the car gets to share the fear. Bonus points if you're also in the mountains with steep drops.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TT motorcucle racing on the isle of mann is also freakin bonkers

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What about pod racing

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Indeed, no tire walls, no gravel run offs, only trees.

8 months ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 0

And cliffs. I used to love watching Pike's Peak.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah you were at brands hatch 20 years ago.

And people

I lost it to a hard drive crash, but I had a bad-ass gif of a photographer standing at the edge of the course to take photos- a rally car comes flying over a hill, loses control, and would have hit the guy full-on if the photographer hadn't taken a step backwards. The dude is totally non-chalant about it, even raising his camera to take a picture of the wreckage just a second or two later. It's *insane*

Holy shit yes! That's it! i was misremembering a few things (I thought it was black and white, for one) but I can just hear Bender saying "neat!"

Damn !

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

heh....Nascar

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My parents both did Ralleys. Mom was the driver, my dad the shotgun guy constantly shouting stuff to say what comes next. Spent childhood on races and in formel-pit-lanes. I cannot say I ever met someone distinguishing and prioritising like that. It's like riding. Some showjump, some just ride privately through the forest, some vault, some minority has the most expensive horses dressaging in olympia. All united by the love for horses. Horses, metal & oil smells good whereever you are.

Nascar I do not understand, but rally and F1 are vastly different. F1 is zen. You optimize your lines be consistent. Every fraction of a second matters each lap. In rally, you adapt. It's never the same. Raw driving talent matters.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree, although there is nothing quite like the sound of an F1 engine tearing past you at 9000 RPM. Sends a shiver down my spine...

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Not anymore they there isn't. They sound shit

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you heard them lately, they sound like an angry marmoset at best.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Nascar is a joke

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How do you feel about motogp's isle of man tt course?

8 months ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 3

That, or Paris to Dakar. I wish they'd televise it in the US. I loved the show they did before when KTM/Redbull sponsored a team.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

IoM TT is not MotoGP. It’s super bikes and other classes. It is also one of the best motorsport races in the world. Crazy high speed and closed public roads through villages - just nuts

8 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

correct, correct, absolutely, super scary.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ugh. I hate you Dierks.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ty... I did, immensely. Seeing 300kph+ come up when riding on what is essentially an English countryside road is attention grabbing.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That said, they did run a MotoGP bike around the track as an exhibition a few years ago. The actual TT has classes that use stock bikes that are available from a dealership and road legal apart from tyres. They also have a fully electric class which usually includes university engineering teams!

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am wary of the term "stock bike". Many years ago my son bought a near new 250cc Suzuki Repsol. This thing had the tightest power band I ever saw on a bike (I rode HDs, so there's that) but when it hit the start of that band the power unleashed was fear inducing. Like you said, walk in to a showroom, pay your monies and walk out with mad machine.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel.... fuck that shit.... yeap, that's how i feel about it.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I consider that to be a motorcycle rally stage

8 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Closest thing to podracing in real life. Check out some 1st person footage.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Absolutely. F1 is now but a shadow of its former self, not that it could ever compare to WRC. By the look of the driver's action on the wheel I'm thinking he's not steering the vehicle but instead making small adjustments to drift.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Im sorry that you think f1 is worse because people dont die anymore.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

The ground coverage of an F1 car is equivalent to a full size SUV. They're enormous despite being very low. You can barely fit them 2 wide at some tracks so the racing is much more processional now.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

F1 is worse because the cars got to big and have no space to overtake without bullshit like DRS, the enforcement of the rules is so inconsistent drivers like max can get away with punting cars into the shadow realm with no punishment.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

People dieing had nothing to do with the changes to F1. Ecclestone was the driving force of change, and he was bloody useless at it.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

F1 got boring and this has been going on since before Jules Bianchi's death. The cars are too wide and long to allow for proper racing on real racetracks, the rules and penalties are inconsistently applied and there are barely any gravel traps anymore that punish exceeding track limits. Overreliance on ground effect and too wide tires cause massive spraying which is why we don't see proper rain races anymore.
