Both PBS and NPR receive funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), as well as private and corporate donations and sponsorships. The CPB receives an appropriation from Congress, this year, 2025, it’s $535 Million. A pittance in the realm of governments and billionaires. I fucking hate what’s happening.

No, it’s not. Sesame Street is owned by Sesame Workshop. They air the show on PBS. Due to a lack of funding for public television, Sesame went to HBO and cemented a first run deal to fund the show for the last ten years, allow first run on HBO/Max, and then go to PBS 9 months later for free. HBO chose to end that deal, not cancel Sesame Street, which they cannot do.
Sesame Street is now a Free Agent, seeking a partner to fund new episodes, probably in exchange for a first run deal.
