Okay so first I'm a software developer. I have used

Netflix
Amazon Prime
Hulu (becoming Disney+)
Max
Paramount+
Disney+
ESPN+(becoming Disney+)
Freebie
PBS
CuriosityStream
Peacock
as well as one offs for movies on Crackle, Pluto, Fandango, and some others I cannot recall.

But nothing compares to one of these more than others.

And the winner for worst UI is! ESPN+

I mean let's go into a lot of things quickly. But first I like watching Tennis and the grand slams and LEGALLY to stream them you need ESPN+, or Sling or YouTube TV. I have ESPN+ with a bundle so I try it and yuck.

First off you come in and it's a wasteland of just impressing you with scrolling tiles on a carousel. But they make no sense. It's just all whatever sports they want. You have to know not to select 'Tennis' at the top but 'Leagues' Cool now I can find what I want. Hey WTF? It's just randomly listing everything together in one long carousel?

Well Today Taylor Fritz is in the Quarterfinals and you would expect an American in the Quarterfinals to be shown right away. Nope. You can filter right? Nope. Okay well at least it should be near the front. Nope. ESPN decided that filters of any type, any way to find things is dumb. The best thing is make everything carousels and just one big line called 'Live & Upcoming', and Recorded. You have to google what time people go on or go back to a text only menu that may spoil things of Tennis and then see. They cannot mix the too. But hey once I get it right I can find it right?

I don't know about you but those are female tennis stars. It's great to know that whoever coded this site is probably using one set of data for the images and one for the title. That is just (kisses thumb with forefinger together and blows it) the crap deh resistance! I'm a lead developer and if anyone tried to push this through I would laugh at them and talk about atomicity of content and having this very problem. Here it's displayed proudly and incompetently for other developers to see a real world example of how bad it is.

The other thing I love is the dev's thought it better to go through redirect hell with their data to invalidate tokens. While you can do some overly complicated things. You can also usually fix this by Opening Dev Tools(F12 for Chrome or Edge). Go to the 'Application' toolbar and just select 'Clear site data'. Yes I know from other devs you could find just the key or what not that got it wrong but it may cascade so I just do everything since their site is so bad.

Yeah, they're pushing content that they want you to watch and often hide other content.

ESPN has been trash for a while and I'm an unfortunate customer as well. They're definitely one of the worst.

I miss the 3rd party Plex plug-in support. They had some great ones for sports channels. I mean I never would ever use them

Pretty soon there will be a common interface across all channels and apps, and then there will be huge bundled services. And they shall call it "cable."

I think I can safely say that the UI design of streaming services is the very last thing on the mind of users and/or potential users
