Tips on how to support the show without rewarding behavior like this from the streaming services that pay for them to be made? I hate paying unfairly to greedy companies, but I also hate great shows just getting cancelled after 1 season all the time.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't think there is a way. Once the show is on a certain streaming platform, the only way to ensure it gets funding is to watch it on that platform.

Cancel it. I dare you. Quit Amazon like you did Facebook (or should have), and after a few months go by... you'll be surprised how much better you feel. There is so much more to life, than allowing these companies to turn you into an addict.

Just found 5 new sites with amazing quality and all the content needed. Fuck the bastards who made Cable 2.0

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have prime for the delivery service. They have made like 5 good shows in 5 years and if the ads are annoying, I will just pirate them.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Increase prices? Increase piracy.

ublock origin blocks the ads, you just get a black blip where the ad should be

Not an option on consoles, which is the only place I use it.

You guys are paying for streaming services? Why?

2 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 10

I paid Netflix for my family plan. Only problem is my family lives 2 hours away. Since they "cracked down" I cancled as I never use it myself. Tubi ± pi-hole is all you ever need. We really love tubi.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Convenience as others have said, but also a small group of friends or family could have it all. We had a good system for years. I paid for Disney+, friend paid for Amazon, Mum paid for Spotify, Father in Law paid for Netflix. We had it all while only paying for one service. But they got greedy and now the only subscription I've left is Spotify.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Because $8 a month won't bankrupt me and it's a lot less hassle than piracy, never mind the fact that piracy laws in my country are rigorous. Yeah yeah, VPN exists, yet I have no interest in figuring out how they'd work with a Smart TV and a PS5.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It was convenient. If I was watching a show in the living room, I could go and play on my PC and watch it there from the exact moment I stopped with a couple clicks.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For many people its easier. Not everyone has the technical knowledge to pirate. As easy as it is now, it still does require some knowledge and many people just couldn't be bothered with it, which is perfectly fine. Some people just want things to work and not worry about anything else.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At this point though, its not even about pirateing outright, cause theres a dozen websites that use the same vidstream links to just stream free (movies2watch .mx or .tv, wcostream .com etc....) with everything from hbo, amazon, netflix, disney, etc all in 1 spot the day it comes out..

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Makes it easier for the kids on their iPads.. have Netflix and Disney. Used to run emby or plex on freenas, but not as user friendly for everyone

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because it USED to be a good alternative to go viking. I wonder how long its gonna be until they drop the ad-free option, and start packaging streaming services into streaming package subscriptions like cable tv did, that which drove us to the sea in the first place.

“One thing that we have learned is that piracy is not a pricing issue. It’s a service issue,” -- Gabe Newell

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Yet we're talking about a price increase here, so guess it's a pricing issue after all. Newell knew full well that pricing was the main thing - early Steam was terrible but sold AAA games as low as $4 on sales.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Piratesoftware noticed their game Heartbound was being pirated a lot in Brazil. they lowered the price in Brazil by a lot, and now Brazil's sales of the game are 25% of the revenues of the game.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They're already doing this, remember the Hulu, ESPN, and Disney+ bundle?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Oh, right. Not here yet, but of course wherever you are they have already started. Weigh anchor!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I pay for a couple at a time. Usually the ones with specific shows I want to watch back catalogues of which have less torrents. It's convenient. But then I go sailing for the rest.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

For many of the things I want to watch, I p much have to pirate it. Wanna watch the 1999 CGI starship troopers series? Gotta fish it up on the Bay. Wanna watch the weird science TV show? Better hope someone is either selling the complete box set (keep in mind, EXTREMELY RARE, I only found 1 being sold for like $160 in SPANISH) or waste several hours finding one seed that actually has the full series.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It would absolutely be immoral of you to stream them for free directly from sites like:

/movies2watch.mx/tv/roughnecks-the-starship-troopers-chronicles-42x8j">https://movies2watch.mx/tv/roughnecks-the-starship-troopers-chronicles-42x8j

or

https://movies2watch.mx/tv/weird-science-9ojrm/1-1

Dont do it.. its just not ethical.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

convenience. i like pushing a button on the tv's remote to watch stuff instead of hauling the pc upstairs/downstairs every time and hooking it up to that floor's tv

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

My man, run a server which Plex can access. Trust me when I say that it'll be a life saver

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You actually use edge or chrome to cast your screen unto your smart tv. That's what I usually do for stuff that's not available here.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I just have an old laptop in every room attached to its Television Screen.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

mine is strictly a Firefox household. and again, for that i'd have to haul the pc up and down the stairs and hook it up every time i go to a different floor

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

You would not need to hook anything up for casting. I also use only firefox except when casting, then I use edge.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

besides my refusal to use chromium-based browsers, there's still the "pc is two floors up" issue

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

I have a NAS with sonarr, radarr, qbittorrent, and jellyfin on it. sonarr and radarr automatically download shows and movies as they come out and I can use jellyfin on my tv to watch it. you could do it with your computer too it's nothing too fancy. and much more convenient than manually checking several separate streaming sites, it's all in one place.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

r/homelab is leaking

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This sounds way more complicated than what I have the bandwidth for. Books are looking sexier every day.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Honestly, with dish and almost all the streaming services, I find I'm reading so much more now because there's nothing out there that I really want to watch any more. Maybe dr who, but I have t even started it yet. So probably not.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Send me a pm, I've got the easiest pirate site and it literally has every show I've looked for. Just need ublock.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, that's way over my cba threshold.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's kinda where I'm at. Are ads annoying? Definitely. Are streaming services getting shittier? 100%. I can also start and cancel subscriptions easy AF though, and it's way more convenient to just pick a streaming service off my Roku for the monthly cost of a combo meal at Wendy's and binge their content for a few months, then cancel them and pick a new service. I really don't want to spend $500 in hardware and a month optimizing and automating the setup just to screw over Netflix.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's a lot of words there I don't understand. I also have terrible Internet, which streaming services can manage at a lower quality but downloading anything takes a lifetime

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dm me, I know of a site I've been using for a couple years now. Just need a good adblocker

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

whoa slow down funny videos man, I understood maybe a word or two. would any of that solve my "i have tvs on different floors and only one computer i'd need to haul around" issue?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There are several options for self hosting media. Yes it would mean you don't have to move a computer as long as you have a local network connection and smart TVs or a streaming stick. I use Plex atm

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thanks, i will look up these sticks you speak of

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a term for what's going on here. It's "enshittification". It's a four-stage process. What Amazon's doing here is late stage two, progressing to stage three. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Yuuuup. They claim is so they can keep making and supporting great series and shows that they then cancel way too soon. Rip The Tic and The Expanse

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What stage is Imgur at?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good question. I guess it depends what Imgur sees as its profit model. But if it's the usual racket of selling our eyeballs for ads, then I think early stage 2 because I don't find the ads particularly shitty yet.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Netflix needs to be on this list too.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The wild part is Google is now well into stage 3 of enshittification. In bitcoin land we call this a classic "exit scam"

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ublock origin on chrome has been very effective of blocking this in germany. I have heard this from someone who is definitely not me. maybe it is worth testing in other contries too with the express goal to inform the authorities

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you think this is bad, wait until the Warhammer show comes out. It will be wild and they will jack the cost up again lol

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 409 Dislikes 6

Every time I see the prime animation on something I'm watching, it makes me feel a little better.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Agreed. And yet, people keep using their services as if they're not directly supporting everything Amazon does.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 8

You're using their services by being on imgur. They actually make next to nothing from their retail sales.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

This is not accurate. They make very little from each individual item sold, but they don't have to. Billions of items are sold annually. And the logistics is provided by Amazon, who charge for it. Aws makes more on a per item basis, but the core functional business of Amazon makes bank.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amazon web services. Pretty much impossible to do anything online without them

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

While this is true, we don't have control over what another company uses for their services. We CAN control whether we buy things through Amazon or affiliates, whether we read WaPo, watch Amazon prime, etc. This is the point. AWS employees also aren't the ones dying in their warehouses.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imgur is hosted on it so yeah

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

This is why I hate cable as well. I'm paying a ton of money for many channels and they have ads? I totally get it for the free channels. ( I live in Sweden they have a couple of channels that are paid for by the government and available for everyone.)

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Honestly, all of the channels worth watching on Swedish TV are free.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Blow me timber, that he a stupid move.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Price hikes to watch invincible without ads?

2 years ago | Likes 284 Dislikes 2

Firefox + uBlock Origin = Ad free (works on Hulu too).

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's now a $2.99/mo upgrade to remove ads again. Basically a 50% price hike on Amazon prime to get the same service.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

prime is 14.99 a month to start so your math's a bit off.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, my morning math wasn't accurate and I forgot Amazon already did another 25% direct cost increase recently so it's actually only a ~26% indirect increase this time ($36 increase on $139)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I use ad blockers and haven't seen one yet, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

They just showed up within the past week or so for me. Adblockers at your router? I don't think there exists adblockers for webOS that can be loaded on a TV are there?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't know, but I commonly use the PS4, which I don't think has any way to block ads on Paramount or Amazon

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pihole. No ads on most of the services.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Funnily enough, the pirating website I use is rife with hentai pop-ups unless you have uBlock on, but apparently the browser on my parents Samsung TV has built in ad-block, which was lucky lol.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The high seas are calling us home.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well I'm glad I'm rich enough to afford all of these streaming services at once, and would never stoop so low as to use sites "wcostream" or "bflix." Those sites operate unethically, streaming huge libraries of content for free; and I'd never fall to piracy...

Goodness, is it Talk Like A Pirate Day already? Good thing this isn't a unique and easily searchable comment, as I'd hate to be able to come back here to find this information when I get my server setup this weekend, no siree.

For folks in the states, make sure you're using a VPN. The distributee can still be charged with criminal piracy in the US.

No idea why someone downvoted you. That's just good advice!

I'm being brigaded. Several of the threads I'm in have the same people spamming '.' and 'doot' while downvoting me.

And no region lock. I'd pay to rewatch Dancer in The Dark, The Savages, NewsRadio, and I heard good things about Firefly and Always Sunny. But I'm stuck with the poor preferences of the people in my country.

Are these websites like limewire? Will I infect my poor computer? I'm scarred from the past.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On these types of streaming sites it's the ads you have to worry about. And sometimes there are malicious redirects. A robust ad blocker that blocks cross-site tracking, cookies, pop ups, etc will protect you. Browsers have gotten much better since limewire's days & firefox will protect you with just 1 or 2 add-ons. Try it w/ ublock origin. I watch all kind- i certainly don't watch all kinds of stuff with protection and have no problems with infections.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shouldn't, but wcostream has ads, ublock goes a LONG way though

Totally unethical indeed, like using Plex with Sonarr and Radarr. I wouldn't stoop so low, it would be the end of me. We need to defend the legal alternatives with all our might and support our Billionnaires heroes, they're role models for the world.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

There's a bay for people who engage in that particular activity, I hear you can find a torrent of shows, apps, games etc. there. I guess the legality/chance of getting caught depends on where you live, but where I am the strongest legal measure content owners can take is to send a non threatening e-mail (they tried threatening e-mails a decade or so back but were shot down by the courts).

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Get a raspbian, install samba, and relax. I have 5 HDDs with my media library on it. I'm at 27 TB with availability for up to 128 TB without adding more controllers, just don't have the hdds for that. Also the damn thing runs on 15 W.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I assume ssds and not nvmes?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have one SSD on the pi, but the majority are HDDs

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For video playback you really don't need the speed of SSDs, even in high def.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plex for me (I bought it before it turned into garbage) but on the plus side I have a little over 100TB.... Obviously it's all filled with ISOs and work documents.

I 2 hard drives for parity, just in case. I slowly started building it in 2010ish. Because it was one step at a time over the years, I just added drives or replaced other stuff etc. I have a decent enough home theatre set up so I like the absolute best video/audio quality "work documents" that I can get!

8TB on Plex. HDD storage got damn cheap and I'm not about to let that opportunity go to waste!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice! I'm in the process of adding 14TB Exos in a mirrored vdev to my rig - not on proxmox though

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

At the end of my sentences? We spell it "eh", and I say it all the time, but rarely write it doon.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Adding "eh" makes a statement into a question, by asking you if you agree with the statement. "Some friggin cold outside eh?" "Still not as cold as last winter eh?" "Yeah eh?" "Yeah" Sunset o'er the Bay of Fundy.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely not useful because certain movies are regionlocked on YouTube and other mainstream services, and literally can't be paid to view or access in my country. Definitely doesn't help with that, certainly not with uBlock.

The internet revolutionary tough talk with no follow through is getting pretty old. Why not be super original and post a dancing guillotine gif? We all know that none of us have the balls to actually do it.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

We all want to do something, anything, that might help the future people live happier. We are just afraid of losing what we already have, and for no effect. And very few want to be violent. We are only human. Still if we push in the same direction, in any small way we can, we might get somewhere better.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Big talk. Why don't you do it already?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 9

The primary issue is that it's very difficult for a singular person to do so, for reasons like "The police will stop you." And "The legal system doesn't recognize it as self defence" (Even if, EG: you have a medical condition and you're being denied healthcare, so insurance companies are actively murdering you for money.), so a large mass of people need to gather together to stand a chance.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

Fine. How about voting them in line? Nah, two party system. Then reform the system by voting third parties into significance?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Voting third party is just a form of voter suppression, and sadly, as long as Republicans exist, it's unconscionable to not vote Democrat.

The best option in regards to voting is progressive in the primaries, Democrat in the presidential election.

Because while they won't solve the problems, they usually won't actively make them worse, and create new problems up to and including a genocide against all gender non-conforming people.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

"Hurrdurr us vs them". You're a victim of their system and you still think it works. That's sad.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

That's good, stopgap for the crisis and long game where it counts (assuming you mean progressives that want electoral reform). Progressive voters don't seem to be doing that in large numbers either.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0
