THE ONLY athlete to ever win 5 medals in the same individual event. His record is absurd: either gold or silver everywhere.

The order of the photos looks like he's trying to put them back on.

This was my first thought

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wonder who would've won in their prime, him or Alexander Karelin. Absolute units the two of them

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

My vote goes to Karelin. That man was out of this world. He was unbeaten for 13 years in international competition, until his loss in his last match at the 2000 Olympics.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I did the same thing high school. Tho it was because while training, I was sparing with a Samoan buddy who broke my neck.

286lbs. That’s a big boy

1 year ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I was that big before. Wish I looked like that though

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I outweigh him by 140 pounds

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I watched the match. When they introduced him I was like goddamn that guy is a tank!

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That must have been a hard moment....

Thank you for this. I love learning new about incredible athletes.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I still think I could take him

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Of course he wins! He has that small guy riding on his back to help out.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My cousin did football, but he also did Roman Greco wrestling as a way to help stay in shape during off season. He was good enough at it to compete but he also liked the way it gave him an advantage being a bouncer at a bar as you know how to tip people out of the way and get them outside

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seems like a high point to end on, don't blame him for retiring.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Is he the larger guy or the smaller one on his back?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

nice catch lol

I used to wrestle almost 40 years ago..it's the greatest and hardest sport of them all..I so admire this.

1 year ago | Likes 130 Dislikes 22

Ever tried ballet???? It seriously introduces you to parts of the body & pain you never knew existed!

is it though

Absolutely

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm thinking you're leaning more towards hockey (Checks username)...

;)

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who doesn't wrestle, but who has a pretty solid knowledge of combat sports across the board, it really fucking is. The amateur wrestling scene is gruelling, the schedules they keep are absolutely brutal. More active than almost any other sport I know of, and the training is constant. Collegiate/Greco wrestlers really are 'built different'.

1 year ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Yeah, that why I'm entering the [easier Olympic event].

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How was it like being in the ring with an opponent. Do you remember your most difficult game?

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

They're no ring in amateur wrestling.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

square?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There's a circle in the middle of the mat.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a circle painted on the mats, so kind of a ring

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So what you call it, arena?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wrestled in high school and can recall one. I got bumped up in weight class by coach, and was facing a guy in the league with a serious reputation. Nobody wanted to wrestle him, he was super fit, mean, and often got away with stuff. He had a broken nose and was wearing a mask this time. I was a mediocre wrestler 50% wins

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Beginning to sound like the movie CREED.
Tell me you won the match at the end...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The match started and I got the takedown, I had decided that overwhelming speed was going to be my only hope and maybe the mask would impair his vision. I couldn't maintain control as he was much stronger but managed to get a reverse cradle and cross face him hard on the mask, it definitely hurt his nose. I managed to walk him back and bridge into a pin. I think the shock from his nose hitting allowed that. Right as the ref is down there my nose starts bleeding likely from right after the

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Takedown. It's bleeding so bad the ref halts the match. I had him. I actually had him. I was going to win. I was going to be legend lol. Stuffed some nose tampons (just wadded tp, but that's what we called them) up there and restarted in referee's position, he really quickly reversed and pinned me. I was crushed. Would have been fine losing outright, but almost winning and losing like that was horrible. I went to the locker room and cried in a stall. Coach called it out, saying he wanted more

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Heart like mine, if I cared enough to cry about the loss that showed heart. It did not have the intended effect by calling it out lol sigh.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Up there Cazaly...oops, wrong sport code

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Isn't this a traditional thing, leaving the boots announces the retirement?

1 year ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Correct. I think boxers sometimes do it as well only gloves but I could be imagining that.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

-"What a towering, historical figure. A living legend. An ageless being. Truly a living fossil, almost."

- "Hey man, come on, I'm 41"

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm just confused that wrestling and wrestling have the same word and are so different.

1 year ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 1

What country are they different things? What are you talking about? Like mentally wrestling with ones internal problems vs physical wrestling?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Googling his name gave me his occupation as "showpainija", which literally translated is show wrestler, a Finnish word for the SmackDown type stuff. Bad Google.

1 year ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

If you so desire... Press the feedback button and submit a fix. It works (I used to work on this).

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Might as well. Didn't know you could give feedback for search results

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Cool. Just don't be disappointed if it isn't immediate. It can take weeks. Sometimes months. Sometimes even multiple reports but on this I bet the single report would suffice.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You mean rasslin’ and wrestling?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The difference is in what they wear. You have wrestlers, who usually wear only pants and are very showy, and then there's wrestlers, which wear bodysuits like this one that are only flattering if you have the physique of a true athlete and look VERY awkward otherwise.

1 year ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Yea, that's not what they meant.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

ooh, then do explain to me what they meant if it was NOT the difference between 'showman' style wrestling (WWE etc) and sport-style wrestling?

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

There's Wrestling and then there's Wrasslin'.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Freestyle and Pro wrestling both have their origins in catch (catch as catch can) wrestling.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I was about to correct you and say american folkstyle comes from catch, turns out it's more complicated than that and freestyle (the inferior style 😀) has a cleaner lineage from catch.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just seen a great documentary on that on YouTube.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYP3JsGEdck

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s the one. Thoroughly enjoyable! Been a fan of mma since ufc 1.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If your sport is kinda boring to watch and doesn't get views on tv, you hype up the fighters like boxing, then you hype up the drama and rivalries, then you hype up everything and you get what wrestling is today.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus you get a president who bases his entire life philosophy on pro wrestling concepts. Look at the actual wrestling appearances, and now having that bleached blond nut job speak at his event.

As a heavyweight. Winning gold at age 41. Beyond insane.

More insane that people realize.

Also competed in 2004. Competed in 6 games, got gold in 5 of them. Serious legend of the sport, a literal and figurative giant among wrestlers

1 year ago | Likes 333 Dislikes 1

Not quite 5/7...

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not sure what you're saying. He competed in 6 Olympics. Where did 5 out of 7 come from?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a legend round these parts. /gallery/today-is-5-7-proper-date-formatting-an4bG

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like I just missed it. Didn't join till a year after that post

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait so why did this say five if he did six?

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Competed in 6, won gold in 5.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

He has participated in six olympics and won gold in five of them.

1 year ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

the one was just a warm-up or rest year... legit takes a different type of strength to make someone for lack of a better term...submit or to last long enough to win ....shit takes alot of fucking cardio... quick thinking and strength ( not sure how they score Olympic wrestling ...pin/Points maybe?)

Isnt it also an olympic record that nobody else has ever done this?

Meh, fuck that dude. Supports Trump and so does his half brother Kane. Kane was at a convention of trump's in January. Ironically Trump himself said he wasn't far from 300 lbs in that convention video, so not sure how he claimed he was in the low 200s when he was arrested.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

It is a bugger to do but sometimes you have to separate the Performance from the Performer.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I never followed wrestling, but I still recognized this straight away.

I did have friends in high school who were waaay into wrestling though. So I probably soaked up some info via osmosis.

1 year ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I never got those people, I watched raw and smackdown every week as well as all the PPVs, but we all knew the storylines were made up and the outcomes of the matches were pre-determined.... it was still fun to watch though and the athleticism was incredible.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can be "waaay" into wrestling while still acknowling that it is fixed and fake. It's violent, acrobatic soap opera with a smear of homoeroticism.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, just a "smear"...
