Quack to the Raptor Rescue!

Jun 29, 2025 12:35 AM

I received a direct message about an injured hawk in my area with this picture attached. As a registered falconer, I could tell that the hawk needed help. I coordinated with another falconer to bring me the injured as we worked on security travel to Auburn.

When my friend arrived, the bird was in shock. I went ahead and put a hood on and took him to dark and quiet room to do a quick observation. My friend put on equipment because he did not have vet wrap with him.

Upon initial inspection, it does appear that the right wing has a fracture. I went ahead and stabilized the wing so further damage isn't done and keeping him in a dark and safe location. I reached out to another buddy of mine who will pick him up and take him to Auburn tomorrow.

I always hate when people bring me injured birds but I have a good feeling this dude will make it. Look forward to the day of me releasing him back into the wild.

Where did you pick him up? We had a mating pair of red shouldered hawks in the park where I taught camp at in Vestavia. They were so loud. I loved them though. In the mornings, I would watch them hunt in a nearby field.

Like Mary said, I just hate seeing injured animals. But he will be in good hands here shortly. :)

I think the part they hate is the bird being injured. Not 100% sure though. But they basically have a zoo at home, so it's not the helping part that's an issue.
