After three years of (lazy) development, my local multiplayer space shoot'em up is very nearly ready

The game is called Hyper Ultra Astronautics. At its core it's a simple space arena shooter with solo, competitive and co-op game modes and wide selection of weaponry. The less usual features are semi-realistic thruster based movement, teleport technology based mechanics and support for up to 16 players on a single PC (Windows or Linux).

Hyper Ultra Astronautics is currently in open beta testing. It should be ready before the end of this year..

In solo and co-op modes the player(s) take out waves of enemy drones..

..and bosses (of course).

Here are the currently supported controller options. If you have ideas for more, I'm eager to hear them!

Xbox controller support. That looks like PlayStation

It uses SDL2 gamepad database, so a lot of different gamepads are supported. The picture is admittedly based on a Dual Shock controller.

So it's like an extra spicy recipe of Asteroids? I'd play it on console.

There are a lot of similarities to Asteroids. The biggest difference is that the asteroids don't cause damage, you use them as cover.
