Back to the job search

May 31, 2024 2:26 AM

The worst part is the person in charge of contacting me for each interview said “I look forward to working with you” after the last one so I got my hopes up. That, and the hiring director took a week-long vacation last week when I was initially told I would be hearing back so I wasted a whole week waiting for bad news instead of applying for other jobs. Bills are coming up and shit is right after having my car stolen (then found and having to pay the $500 insurance deductible) so I don’t have time to waste looking for income. FML

Processes that take that long are a potential red flag. It either means nothing ever gets done there without a mountain of bureaucratic red tape, or it means that upper management is filled with do-nothing wall starers. Usually it means both.

In the industry that I work, this is normal. Only ever get a quick hire with a start up who expects your labour and your soul.

Yeah they originally said it’ll take a week, then they tacked on another week and so on 😑

Gartner put me through 4 rounds with two different role play scenarios. And then still gave it to someone with more experience.

Fuck that’s shitty

This has happened to me 3 times this year already. One position used the interviews to pinch my ideas and do them anyway.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m worried they’re going to do exactly that. I wanted to show them I was already in the mindset of the job so I mentioned some ideas and they were really interested… now I wonder if they even ended up hiring anyone at all

They might have done. Nothing we can do about it, unfortunately. Job market in UK is really slow ATM. Should pick up after the election. Just got to keep plugging away.

If the process takes more than 2 weeks it’s a red flag in my opinion. Initial interview, “social” interview to get a grasp of your mindset and technical interview with the team you’ll be working with. After the third you get an answer within a day.

That’s how they initially told me it would go but they added an extra week and then the hiring manager went on vacation for a whole week (why they could make a decision before that is beyond me) 🙄

In a way, they made the decision, by stringing you along. I’m sorry you had to go through that. Our company has a very strict 2 weeks (10 working days) policy from incoming to final decision - for entry level - 5 years.

For me: 4 months, 500 applications, 20 call backs, 6 interviews, 3 second rounds, 1 success. All the unsuccessful outcomes were basically ghosting experiences

I lost a job after a 16 interview process. Wasted damn near 3 months.

Jesus! Where were you interviewing? The CIA?

Department of infrastructure renewal. I had two six hour exams with hour long intermission for lunch.

That’s nuts. Called it on the government job tho lol fuck that bureaucratic nonsense

Try lowes, they're hiring seasonal workers. Worth a shot

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s not the type of job I’m looking for

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh ok, well any job will do for now. you can keep applying for the job you want while you work

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have no incentive to be honest with you. Always keep multiple job options open.

100% and never quit looking. heaven forbid you have 2 offers to pick from

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That was the only bite I got in my last round of sending out applications. I think the fact that I’m a child-bearing aged married woman and the gap in my resume from when I took care of my dad after he broke his ankles makes most places pass me over regardless of how qualified I am

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

lie about the gap and fudge the timeframes. if they won't fact check it now, they never will. an insane amount of bullshit ends up on resumes.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If nothing else, I hope this has taught you to lie on your resume. And in person. At least about the horrible accident in which your entire uterus fell out. Which is the only five minutes you've ever taken off work since you were 11 years old. I kid, best of luck with the next one but also maybe just lie a little bit because fuck em.

I know everyone says to lie but I just can’t bring myself to do it. This place seemed grateful for my honestly and like that was an asset but I guess it didn’t end up counting for much

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They're always grateful for your honesty cause it means you're easier to take advantage of. Ask my cheating ex wife how I know

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

what did that bring you? I was unemployed and erased the time I was out of work. now, no one will go back to find out what happened 8 years or so ago

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Believe me when I say that they don't give a single shit about your honesty. And you're not lying, you're protecting your family, just like they're protecting their whatever. Why do you think they had to pass laws about not firing pregnancy age women? And why do you think companies still do everything they can to get away with not hiring them? They don't act right unless they have to. It's shitty bc honesty should be important. I hope you find something better :)

Thanks kind stranger ❤️ in all honesty I’m looking for a stepping stone job so after my husband gets his medical certifications and starts actually earning money and I take time off to (hopefully) have babies, I can go into one of those posh older lady jobs at a museum/historic site lol so I’ve done a bit of lying already (“I find administrative work so fulfilling on a personal level 🙃” lmao) guess I just gotta stretch it a bit more ugh I’m just trying to avoid racking up more debt by going1

Profits. They're protecting their profits. In their eyes anyway, I'm sure OP's a variable badass.
