Yeah, this happened today.
Got my dream job doing activities at a retirement home. During phone interview, say I need full time. No problem, they say. During in-person interview, again say that I need this to be full time. Again, no problem, we can get you full time.
I get hired. Yay! While signing the paperwork, notice it says part time. Part time? Concerned, I question this. Oh, everyone is part time for the first 90 days. It’s a probationary period.
Seriously?! SEVERAL times I said I needed this to be full time. And each time I was assured I would get full time. At no point did anyone say anything at all to me about this “probationary period” where you are forced to be part time for 3 months. Had I known they would do this, I would have refused. Which is probably exactly why they didn’t tell me.
While they didn’t full on lie to me, they also didn’t give me the whole truth. I was honest and up front with them the whole time. A little reciprocation there would have been nice. And I am not happy about that at all. Ah well. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

And no benefits for 90 days, right?

Walk away fast

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Hospital did the same kinda shit to me when I was hired, scumbagy tactics to secure positions.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 weeks in, how is it going? Did you run?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Write it into the contract and have them sign. If they refuse, walk.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they fuck/lie to you at the beginning they're setting the tone for the entire relationship. Don't walk away. RUN.

3 years ago | Likes 644 Dislikes 2

True outside of employment, too.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, if they lie to you up front I have no confidence they’re good employers.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

If they fuck to you at the beginning I would be deeply concerned what job you’re applying for, be it prostitution or stripping.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

me rn

3 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 1

I was just about to comment with that gif and: RUN! Don't walk away.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

a company will never treat you better than when they are trying to hire you

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Has to make you wonder what else they're not telling you? Good luck OP. I honestly hope this works out for you.

3 years ago | Likes 275 Dislikes 1

I’m wondering this too. I give transparency in all, and expect the same. I want it to work out, but they broke my trust very early.

3 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

I really feel ya, hope you find something that works for you where you can shine as a good helper!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, they full on completely lied to you. (Part time means no insurance)

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

You have to decide if their deceit makes it become not your dream job.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It was my dream job. Now I’m already thinking of moving on. If they lie about this, what else are they lying about?

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"While they didn't full on lie to me..." They did. Full time later is not full time now. They have shown they do not care about your needs--

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

-nor do they care to communicate openly and fairly. Probation is to confirm they trust you, but they've given you no reason to trust them.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Spend your off time looking for another gig. If you get a better offer you can leave or if they’ve earned your trust stay.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Always be looking for your next job.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuck that's a big red flag.

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

They started lying to you on day 1. This could just as easily turn out to be an 89 day temp position if they feel like it. Bail.

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Talk to some of the people who have been there a while. If there aren't any, that should be a red flag

3 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 0

I will. I’m back there again next Monday.

3 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

A lie of omission is still a lie.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"". Oops, sorry didn't mean to lie.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hate to be the voice of doom, but if they're willing to spring this on you, there's a chance they've got other shady shit going on.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What else aren't they telling you and/or what else are they willing to force on you?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Part time part seems fishy. 90 day probationary period has been pretty standard in my experience.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At full time. Haven't had a conditional part time probationary period

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Walk away. Dream job maybe, definitely not your dream employer. What else aren't they telling you?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is a hazing technique that insures they only get timid souls with imposter syndrome who they can abuse. Know your worth and WALK.

3 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

I may have imposter syndrome, but they managed to wake up the angry part of me that has long been dormant.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Then use that energy to quit and look for an honest employer

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

FYI, they do not need a reason to fire you within the first 90 days of employment. This exact scenario happened to me.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

KNOW YOUR WORTH!!!

3 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 3

It’s not this. Much as I would have liked it to be. ☹️I was actually super excited to sign the paperwork today. That just shit on my mood.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Walk, they lied to your face, get out now.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you didn't get it in writing, you didn't get a promise. You got thrown bait and you bit.

3 years ago | Likes 173 Dislikes 11

^this

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they say "Oh we will Upgrade it" get it in email. Get every promise in Email. Never take anything important at face value.

3 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

And actually ask what the position is, don't just say what you need. We can doesn't equal it is.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

.. usually you don't get anything in writing BEFORE the actual paperworks...

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

either bail and apply somewhere else or deal with it for 3 months. . unfortunately its pretty common now to do a temp to hire type thing

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That must be a private sector bullshit move. I worked for the govt for 6 years & never saw that. Pay aint great but it's secure

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My current part time job may turn full because of things happening. I would happily dump this new one for my current place.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

5 bucks says they come up with some reason to fire you around day 85-89.

3 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Right? Part time means they don’t have to give benefits. Anything to keep us part instead of full.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Its a dick move, but usually benefits don't apply until after probation is over right?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right. But they won’t give you benefits unless F/T. So I can’t even sign up for any because I’m only P/T.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

which is why they fire you before the probation periods up. So they got cheap labor, and dont have to pay any benefits.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ypu may not know this but most jobs have a probation even full time. Are you getting full time hours and pat on probation?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Pay* if not quit asap, if so then do ya job and you will be fine.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They can easily schedule full time during a probationary period. It seems more like they're trying to get out of paying benefits during

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

probationary period, although that's dumb since the Affordable Care Act allows for 90 days before offering health coverage.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP got lied to and the probation period is part time 24h and not full time.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Common in some jobs, which I realize doesn't help you, OP. Question is, how bad do you want the job and is it worth 3mo of that hassle?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't see the benefit of doing this for only 90 days instead of having the same hours from the beginning.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want it bad. But my bills won’t survive 3 months part time. Which is why I asked for full from the word go.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The question is can he make rent and bills for 3 months at part time?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How many hrs is the p/t? 37 1/2? 24? They don't want to pay benefits until they know you are acceptable.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

24hrs. And I have 8 years in the field, they know I have experience. They didn’t have to be shady about it.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

What field of I may ask

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

24 is shit, can't make a proper paycheck with that, try elsewhere

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Am doing so. Even better, my weekend job may be about to go F/T for me. Will happily dump this new place for them.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Just wait. "It's traditional to give two weeks' notice" "It's also traditional not to lie about giving me a full time job, get bent"

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Standard practice to be in 90 day probation even when full time here.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Right, that’s one thing. But having different hours without being told is some bullshit.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

No where in that post does it say that it’s different hours. I think op just misunderstood what the 90 days is for.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

it's implied when she says full time job vs part time job. Those are a different set of hours.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It’s 24 hrs/week, so very different from full time hours. OP is getting hosed.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No where in that post does it say that it’s different hours.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

it's implied when she says full time job vs part time job. Those are a different set of hours.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It’s in a comment further down.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Make sure the contract states full time after 90 days. Honestly though, I'd walk. That's shady

3 years ago | Likes 1235 Dislikes 3

Walk, glass door them, Google review them horribly, basically fuck them

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Find another job. Quit.

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I had a 3 months probationary period at my first job. Received reduced salary, but after 3 months received the rest from previous months

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

that was my biggest pay day ever. I could buy 15 washing machines or 10668 bananas from that single salary.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

1000 bucks? I mean what can a banana cost? 10 dollars?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

eh, i'd consider it to be dumb people in charge before i considered malice. basically every place has stupid people.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ask for details about after 90 days like he say but don't just walk without considering everything. Reddit advice is dramatic. Take time.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Walk would be best. I've had a job like this, on top of probation being them keeping 20% of your check. Low turnaround my ass.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seriously if this is how it starts it's only going to get shadier.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is shady. And I don’t like it. Definitely considering walking.

3 years ago | Likes 451 Dislikes 1

Imagine how satisfying it will feel to tell them too

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't give them notice either. It's not required so fuck it

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If you don't walk and in 90 days you don't get full time then it's not on them for lying it's on you for letting them get away with it.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't walk, RUN!!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They lied to you as far as I'm concerned. They misled or purposely allowed themselves to be misrepresented for their own benefit

3 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

They're on probation as much as you are. They have to prove they're worthy to have you as their employee.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’m a talent advisor and I’m shocked they did that. I’d walk out. So sorry to hear this happened to you.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lies from my employer is an at will termination. I don't do workplace BS.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

That sucks man. I feel you. Just got called offering a 6 figure job of my dreams. Did 1 interview. They were very interested. Set up 1

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a second and final interview 2 days later. HR person didn’t show so they said they have to reschedule and would be in touch. Then ghosted. 2

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What’s the job

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they lied to you BEFORE they hired you, why would you think they'll tell the truth now that they have leverage over you?

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Good news is part time work gives you time to look for work

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Walk walk walk walk walk walk

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you don't walk now, they will walk all over you later.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you sure thats not just a wording technicality? Where I live 90% of nursing amd hospital staff are "Part Time" but they still work 40/

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

hour weeks or more. The difference between part and full time impacts seniority, vacation, benefits, etc. not actual weekly hours or pay. /

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Still sucky, but make sure you fully understand the meaning and talk to some existing staff before you do something you can't undo.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The industry isn't that big. Wherever you look to work, someone knows someone who knows you, you're young so be careful with your reputation

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take the job, then find another one

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you would have refused , but are now staying, they are hoping you will just continue to accept it and settle. Happens all the time.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Use spare time to find new job, use current shady job to subsidize job hunting. Walk out like "peace shady nerds!"

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Depending on pay, schedule, etc. , they may be better off staying on unemployment.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Walk. Too many red flags.

3 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 1

I see only one. But in this case, yeah it is too many

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You see only one NOW. he's had 1 "interaction" with them and they lied to his face, what else are they lying about

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but they hid that red flag numerous times.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You'd think that with employee shortages that employers would know better than to be pulling this shit right now, but they don't learn.

3 years ago | Likes 182 Dislikes 0

I sure as heck wouldn't do that. It's hard out there finding people

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Oh no, a bunch of places are also doing the opposite—I specified part time only and everything was full time

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nursing homes are absolutely shit, the management see the elderly as cash cows, billing insurance near 20k per day.
