Day # whatever of me trying to change people’s minds about spiders

Sep 15, 2025 3:03 PM

So this is one of the downsides of breeding- sometimes, it just doesn’t work out. I had one baby hatch from this clutch. Usually once one emerges, others are quick to follow. But after almost 3 weeks, despite the sac darkening (which means the babies were growing), there was no movement when I misted. So I went ahead and pulled it open and nothing. I’m not sure why this happened as it’s been kept the same as all my other healthy sacs. There’s still SO MUCH to learn about our 8 legged friends

Based on the thumbnail I thought this was ice cream.

Nothing to panic over. It just sucks

Is it an air related thing?

Like I said, I sadly have no idea. :/They were kept in the exact same environment and given the exact same care as my healthy sacs. Sometimes clutches just fail to thrive, especially if it’s the mom’s 5th or 6th egg sac

Thanks- it happens sometimes! I just hate not knowing the “why” of it because I always want to adapt and improve my husbandry

Maybe the egg sac was low on nutrients

And that one little spooder is gonna get so much love, not just from you OP ( b'cos that's always gonna happen!) but from us lot too!

I hope it does okay and isn’t a failure to thrive :/

Please keep us all updated, this little beauty will be OK, it's got you, & countless of us followers rooting for it (I'm using 'it' as I'm kinda guessing it's a bit early to tell if M or F yet, unless I don't know if there is a definitive way of knowing straight away, never seen a spider with kahooners!)

Nope, they’re not sexually dimorphic (can tell M or F just by looking) until they’re juveniles/subadults :) And I really hope it’ll be okay!!!
