Some people made sourdough bread to pass time during lockdowns. Me? I startled cutting up old baseball cards. Lots of them.

Each square is a 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch piece of a 1989 Donruss baseball card. They aren’t worth anything now, but 6th grade me loved them. I pieced together the entire 660 card set one wax pack at a time. I have boxes and boxes of extras.

What better way to use these cards than to pay homage to the king of 1989 Donruss Rated Rookies, George Kenneth {Ken) Griffey, Jr.

1/2 inch squares seem really small at first, but they add up real quick.

Card cutting process

This was the workstation.

Actual size. Each sheet is 7.5 inches wide by 10 inches high. He’s just over 40 inches high from heel to helmet. Once each sheet is finished, I scan it and piece it together in photoshop to create the clean image from the video above. Lockdowns ended and it’s still not finished, but I definitely probably will finish it some day.

This turned out great! I've wondered for a long time how one would do a piece of art like this. Thank you for sharing the process with us.
