Please tell me these are going on a drift missile

A dirt nasty 350z. (Not mine)

I would LOVE to learn to do that

I never respond to photos here, but wow!! nicely done.

Hell yeah them look dope af!

That's cool. I mean I wouldn't have them, but I like the colors.

Got that early 2000s Technic Slizers vibe

Very “the cup” colors.

I love that I know exactly what you mean.

That's a deep cut and I whole-heartedly appreciate it.

I too appreciate it

Though I had to look up what a Slizer was, in the US they were called Throwbots.

Woah! Would these fit on my Civic? #MCM

That's a badass wrap

I dig that wrap. Did the engine bay on my buddies RC-F.

Ok that's so sharp the preview looks like a render, not even kidding. Damn fine job on that coating, it looks super professional, not 'I dabble in' weekender stuff.

How does one dabble in powder coating? Don’t you need like an enormous kiln? Genuinely asking.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anything that can get to 400°f. You can even do small parts in a cheap toaster oven.

Those purple rims are gorgeous..I wants for my motor!

Neat!

How touchy is the time & temp for those colors?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's pretty forgiving. Powder has a 100% over bake protection for time. Its undercoating that you need to avoid. Total time in the oven is about 2 hours over 3 coats.

From the thumbnail I thought these were case fans. Now I can see that they're clearly fancy garden hose reel.

You just gave me an idea...

I'm a chrome guy but these look amazing, different colors on the front and back?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What color/brand are the holographic parts?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Prismatic Universe from Prismatic Powders.

BMW wheels? The runflats wheels were the bane of my existence back in the late 2000s early 2010s. Due to me being "the" guy who did them in my area. I was forced to get good. Further ruining my life.

350z drift car. And agreed, run flats are absolutely awful.

Dabble? STFU looks amazing. Pro.

i need those. i don't have a driver's license or car but i need those purdy wheels.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could you detail how you did these?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did in another comment.

Any chance you have process/equipment pics? Those are stellar

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

you put a negative charge on the part and you spray it with positively charged powder and that makes it stick, then the whole thing goes in a oven that causes the powder to melt into a glossy hard shell.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. And also if you fuck the temperature up by a few degrees, or the time by a few minutes, you have to start over

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's actually fairly forgiving as far as over curing goes. But under curing will make the coating brittle and easy to chip.

I’ve got a buddy who’s a powder coat virtuoso. I used to help him prep, using MEK to clean aluminum. He figured out that the only way to do white on these big posts with thin components was to turn off the oven halfway through the cycle and run them twice. Couldn’t scratch his stuff with my house key lol

I have a section of exhaust pipe I coated for customers to beat on with a wrench to try and chip or crack it. It's incredibly durable if cured right.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anyway, I’m far from being an expert, but I know the process and your stuff looks fucking great

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I sprayed the prismatic color as the base coat. Then partially cure in the oven. Cool down the wheel, then spray the color. Illusion violet and illusion ice for these. Then take a micro vacuum or a wet finger and carefully remove the powder where you want it to be prismatic still. Then another partial cure. Then clear coat and full cure. Nothing fancy equipment wise. A basic powdercoat setup can be done for under $500.

Those look absolutely amazing.

Neat. They really do look great. Just curious, though: will you have to clean up the outer edges any, or does the coating not affect the seal to the tires?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No it seals fine. If they're fancy race wheels that have the knurled area, then I'll mask that off. But for every day wheels it's fine. Same way they come from the factory.

Nice. Didn't know if the metallic sparkles were actually gritty and might create a slightly porous surface for a slow leak. Very cool to see, and glad to hear it doesn't require extra work or anything.
