The first full week in May is Teacher and Nurses Appreciation week. It was probably my worst week in a long time!
I’ll give a summary: A kid missed my class on a test day. I see on the computer monitoring program they were still in school somewhere. I don’t want students on their devices during a test so it was locked down with the others. Emailed the parent and they were fine with them skipping. They were mad at me for locking the computer. The next day had a conversation with the kid, didn’t as intended as they weren’t happy with me. Parent that evening was still not happy. Threatening to take my teaching certificate because of this whole situation. My principal has been super supportive and even said I’m in no fault.
Finally had a meeting two weeks later and they just talked for the entire time just venting. I think I said about two sentences the entire time. No goals were made, nothing productive was gained. Just them venting with nothing specific about me or what I do.
Principal in the end told me I did a good job in the meeting and to carry on. A half a month’s worth of weight was listed and now I just want the year to end.
FP edit: wait, front page on 64 upvotes? Aight. Yes, I have a job. Union was aware because I’m a union representative. Everyone I told the story to are also thinking the parent is crazy.

I think you confused "venting" with "ranting." Those parents had no real frustrations to vent, they were just ranting in anger to try and force you to do what they want.

Thank you for being a good teacher!! 🍎

Unfortunately some kids will fail and end up like their parents. You gave a good effort to correct the behavior and improve them. The parents failed not you.

Like you know what went down? Get real.

We get an appreciation week because we are understaffed and underpaid. At least my school did raffles and provided lunch for the staff 3 out of 5 days.
JustSomePersonThere
You’re a good person doing good things.
ridureyu
OOF!
But at least you still have your job, right?
SleepyKitten
I chortled at that threat. Good grief! The entitlement of stupid people!
Hotsauceman
I do. No issues there.
Thetipsygardener
I had a student threaten to come after my license because they failed an exam. People are wild.
ilikepiewaytoomuch
In my state, the school district or state might come for your license if you do anything illegal. You know, like calling a child their preferred name without the consent of their parents. I hate it here. Positive note, my school is very great, awesome admin and teachers. It's my district and state that I always have a face of wtf? This district is wild. Birth place of Mom's for Liberty, Sheriff Wayne Ivey, culture war board members, so much more than I am just planning my escape.

If you're actually curious about making fp on a certain number of votes, sometimes it's the rate of upvotes other times it's the time of day there are all kinds of things that seem to feed into getting fp. More than I've mentioned pretty sure some of the metrics I've noticed are specifically to make it harder for bot posts to move up though and I'm going to keep them to myself.

That's not crazy, that's bad parenting. Just remember to record conversations when/where possible. And might want to brush up on your state's truancy laws and your school system's requirements for amount of time spent in class needed to pass it should the situation pop back up. But thank you for putting up with this stuff, and for still caring.

They don’t have teeth anymore in WA. I wish they did.

Sounds like they were having hard time and decided to dump all that on you because you were convenient. Asshole-behaviour. Been at the end of the stick of a client who decided to pour their own unwellness on me and using work as an excuse to do it. Took a while to get over it because it was not deserved. You didn't deserve that treatment either and it is unfair when it happens. I hope you manage to let it go eventually. Venting to a friend or strangers usually helps, so maybe this post helped

Once asked a kid, 'honey, please don't slam that door, my class is trying to take a test'. He responded 'fuck off bitch, I do what I want'. Reported it to the AP. Counselor heard, butted in and said, 'well, maybe you shouldn't attack him like that.'
But fuck us, right?

Way to go teach!!

I appreciate you teacher.

From a Nurse: Thank you for being a teacher, I've seen your job and don't want it.

Some parents should not have been allowed to have kids. You just have to deal with it.
sneakolai
"Parent" is also a verb. I wish more sperm and egg donors remembered this.
alittleglassvial
Don’t let one kid take you down. You’ll have them from time to time. I taught for 15 years… we spend more time with the kids than their parents, and parents are aware that sense of control has been taken from them. Just keep calm and teach on 💚
Safflower777
Parents today suck. They are just hateful enablers.
Eyhlix
I appreciate you, Teach!
Hotsauceman
I appreciate you! Remember helping an imgurian with education law for to help advocate for their kid

Unfortunately, we can't win every battle. The more time that is wasted on people who don't care is time lost, which could be provided to those that need it. Not to induce any feelings of chagrin.

Sorry about your frustrations lately, brother. Oh well, the year will be over soon enough and then you can get back to your culinary endeavors. I'm with you.
Hotsauceman
I got two hot sauces ready to go with recipes. I’ve just been so burnt out to make the label and post it. I’m just,…done.
laotzu42
Well, hermano, you have my empathy. I've been keeping busy with printing/selling that I haven't felt much like blogging lately. I hope that the end of the academic year finds you in better spirits.
Hotsauceman
Thank you. I want to reach out to a podcast that is in my city. They talk about different people and things in the community and people can reach out.
glovelyday
Don't focus on the bastards. Leave them to harm themselves, don't let them harm you. Your principal appears to have your back, that's all that matters.

Work on your reading comprehension. FUCKING pathetic.

"I see on the computer monitoring program they were still in school somewhere. I don’t want students on their devices during a test so it was locked down with the others"
I have no idea what this means
eadanke
It sounds like the school gives the kids tablets or laptops for school use and the teacher can turn them off remotely.
Hotsauceman
@acme64 this is a correct meaning.
acme64
But they weren't in the classroom?
Hotsauceman
Yes, if they are on the school campus they are still on the wifi so they are on the monitoring system.
acme64
oooh cool
