It's literally always this especially here. Actual guys with strong opinions about masculinity and nails wouldn't bury the lede, they'd just start yelling right off.
I feel like this is unintentionally associating nail painting with being feminine which is the opposite of the message of the post. Again, unintentionally but anyone can paint their nails and could be important to not have the first thought be drag queen
Maybe I'm old school, but I don't get mad about you getting your nails painted with your wife. I legitimately could not imagine giving a fuck about your nails one way or the other.
It's not about whether you can do your own nails, it's about the social outing, the extras like the paraffin peel, maybe a pedicure, it's a whole thing. I would go with my ex when she was stressed and we'd both get mani/pedis and she'd vent about whatever. It was an easy pick me up and cost me less than dinner and a movie.
That sounds like a lot of peopling. I even avoid getting my hair cut just simply because during my time off I’d much rather stab my eyes out than have to be around people other than my wife and my fur creatures
Same. I resented scheduling an appointment, taking time out of my day, and paying money to get a simple haircut I could do for myself with some Wahl clippers and two guards. Which is what I do now. BUT, if hair places were still like old barber shops and gave me the hot towel, shave, haircut, cologne, etc, then I could definitely be convinced to spend the extra money. It's the difference between maintenance and a luxurious experience.
Growing up, about once a month my parents would invite friends over and a pedicure. They would spend the evening sitting around drinking coffee and whatnot, having their feet done in turn. Which was great for me because they were in another part of the house and more or less forgot about me if I stayed quiet enough. Never dis get the whole ‘person touching your feet’ thing. Until I went through chemo and it fucked up my feet royally. Now their age then, I get it. I want a pedicure. It’s lovely.
Yes, but at least in my experience, the famous Henry Ford quote applies: you can have any color you like, as long as it's black... I haven't seen any guys wearing colors. But I live in a small Midwestern city, so it's probably different in the bustling coastal metropolises.
I’m a dude with painted nails. Fake, but I paint them myself. Short, because I want color, NOT length. I ended up deciding the fake route was best. If one comes off, I pick it up and glue it back on like nothing happened.
I used to do them all the time. It's no more difficult than regular polish, it's not like holding your nails under a lamp after every coat takes any skill.
Reminds me of complicated braids. I had an executive ask me how/who did my hair. I told her I just kept watching youtube vids and trying until my fingers learned how.
I used to do my own gel manicures at home, and it actually wasn't hard at all. You just have to buy the lamp. Now I use press-on nails and they are so much easier. Just glue those suckers on once every 2-3 weeks.
The nails themselves are Modelones brand and cost like $8. The real MVP is the glue, a brush-on called Nailbond. I have found that roughing up the natural nail and the back of the press on with a file or nail dremel also helps.
I'm a licensed nail tech, and my husband has been having me regularly do gel nails on him for over a decade now. I specialize in nail art, so he's usually got Fallout or Ninja Turtles or something fun painted on them.
My wife is semi pro and just switched from gel and UV to something new that requires like 8 coats but it doesn't damage her skin. Best part this new stuff doesn't even smell at all! Looks better and lasts longer. If anyone actually reads this I'll ask her tomorrow what she really uses.
Dude it's legit. I never used to have anyone, including my wife, touch my feet. I agreed to go after she refused to sleep next to me in bed because my Flintstone feet drew blood one night.
Lemme tell you something, those ladies changed my life. We go once a month and I'm like Norm (RIP) up in that place. They all know me and they pamper the shit out of me.
If anyone is on the fence, give it a chance. Oh and get that clear coat in your toes and it helps keep them looking clean and healthy.
I took my sons to get pedicures. They were upper high school and college. The techs kept talking about their big feet and laughing. So awkward that I was there, but they thought it was great. Oldest goes with his wife now sometimes.
I usually handle it myself because ingrown toenails, once I get that fixed though, you best bet I'm going to get a pedicure, my big bald and bearded self would love his feetsies cared for
absolutely. I can't bend for shit due to a fucked up back, so having it done is just the obvious thing to do. Plus, I've had a split nail for over a decade that just will not heal, so she tries to maintain it from getting worse. And my feet overall feel better.
Oh, man, right!? I'm a middle aged white cis male and I was always of the 'not paying $30 for someone to clip my toenails' mindset; but once I tried it I got addicted. My feet just feel good afterward.
Yeah, it's def not just clipping. Foot health is important for sure. I'm so glad you found it and it makes you happy!!! Just don't go to the ones with the dead skin eating fish lol
The shop my GF goes to had a retired NASA engineer (seriously) who worked part time, so she set me up with him. The guy-guy thing made the first visit less traumatic, but after that it was a non-issue.
My husband has certain areas where you cannot take the GenX out of him. This is one. I’ve found that he needs “permission” from other men to consider things like this. Like, he used to question my continued work with a PT until some retirement finance bro advised a budget line item for PT and massages. Suddenly he was okay with it. Smh.
Lucky, I got a pedicure and the next day had some of the worse toe pain I've ever had. Working construction did not help, but I'd hoped the steel toe boots would take pressure off of them
I do tend to get frequent ingrown toenails as well, and apparently my toes/ toe nails are pretty odd, so I'm thinking it's s me thing. Anything not involving the nails felt pretty good though
xizar
Protip: If you're getting gel or dip, use sunscreen on your fingers before... that UV shit will fuck your hands up.

When my daughter was little, she would paint mine. We had so much fun doing it and showing the neighbors.

Never done my own nails, bit growing up I would help paint my mom's nails all the time. It's fun!

Now I'm thinking about how *skilled* 40K painters should consider going into nail painting services.

Oh yeah, the ingrown toenails hurt like a sonofabitch. It’s why I get pedicures regularly - I’m prone to them and want to avoid them.

Should see a podiatrist about that if you can. They can chemically cauterize the corners of the nail and prevent it happening again
