That's like saying 'I don't like food, I like salt'. because you put salt on everything and without it everything tastes bad.

It's the pickled ginger slices for me.

I never get to eat my pickled ginger, at restaurants my mom treats it like an appetizer before anything else shows up.

I don't like soy sauce on my sushi, but do enjoy using soy sauce when cooking. Goes great when making beef stew, and is a nice change to use it on burgers instead of salt.

Some people, when they pass the fridge, might even get out the soy sauce bottle and dab a little onto the tip of one finger and lick it off. Sometimes. Not every time, that would be weird.

You keep soy sauce in the fridge?...

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Australia. Sometimes it gets hot enough here that all the cutlery in the drawers stays warm to the touch. I guess the soy would probably be fine... Vegemite however, yes, that never goes in the fridge.

Now there's a blast from the past.

I like sushi, I put a little glob of wasabi on it and just touch a corner to the soy sauce.

My favorite is chirashi, which is just pieces of fish on top of a bowl of rice.

EEW! They show Kikkoman as soy sauce in the animation. Kikkoman isn't soy sauce, it is concentrated sadness. Kikkoman is where taste goes to die. Try something like this instead.

There is a negative relationship between soy sauce and the freshness of the fish.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only true sushi is nigiri, makizushi (particularly american maki) is an inferior wannabe.

Let people enjoy what they enjoy. Gatekeeping over food is one of the lamest things a person can do.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I thought the lamest thing a person could do was your mom

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Well if she's lame she can't very well walk to get fucked herself now can she? Pretty stupid of you to be critical of that when you've gotta keep paying to fuck her rather than get a lady yourself.

Sushi + soy with mashed wasabi. Great combo.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I only like certain sushi, really just tuna. Not a fan of any other raw fish. But soy sauce enhances flavor and removes “the sea” taste from the fish. I think it’s only like sushi with soy sauce. Have you ever had a burger without condiments? Or a hotdog? They fuckin suck

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

i've never had sushi that tastes like the "sea" except when it has roe. maybe we're not using that taste the same.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, I don’t use soy sauce. Then again, the only sushi I like are vegetable and the fried egg one. I’ll eat ones with tempura shrimp though. However, white rice isn’t good for you so I wish they provided more options using brown rice

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

It’s the combo that’s great and I wouldn’t enjoy either on its own as much. Particularly the soy sauce, which I really don’t want to consume straight.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Exactly. Sushi doesn't have its own salt content. That's what the soy sauce is for. Salt is incredibly important to flavor. Like, most all dishes would be absolutely bland if you removed the salt content of them.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No shame. Enjoy what you enjoy. I love sushi, and I love soy sauce (the brewed kind - like Kikkoman - not the hydrolyzed kind, like La Choy.)

2 weeks ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

What would China Lily count as? I’m assuming hydrolyzed since it tastes very different from Kikkoman to me.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You get what you pay for

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My go to is Yamasa.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is why I dip mine in mayo and ketchup

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Have a friend that will straight drink Kikkoman. Granted they are hypertensive so maybe it just helps them level out

Tamari is gluten free soy sauce and it is delicious!

2 weeks ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

This is what I get too!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unless you have celiac disease, there is no problem with soy sauce (or any other glutten) Testing has shown that there is no such thing as a gluten sensitivity, it's just trendy BS. That said, tamari is great, but not so much for sushi

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soy sauce has gluten? I'm skeptical.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

I looked it up: 5ppm. That is a vanishingly small amount.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like tamari because it tastes better but I also have gluten issues so someone suggested it to me.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soy sauce is not safe for those with celiac disease like me. Even a little bit of gluten sets off the reaction.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most traditional soy sauces have gluten, since they’re made with wheat as a fermentation agent.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Had an argument in a kitchen about soy sauce and whether it was gluten free. The only thing the other cook could come back with is " but there's no gluten in soy" like, he legitimately thought soy sauce was all soybeans

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I watched a really interesting YouTube video about traditional brewing methods, and I had kind of a forehead slap *ooooh!* moment when I found out how gluten came into soy sauce.

Try the American sushi, you know like California rolls.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Everyone do yourself a favor and look up the Hapa Sushi Double Orgasm roll. Hehe.

There's several Mexican-Japanese fusion restaurants in my area that serve things like carne asade rolls. Far from authentic, but indisputably delicious.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I would love to have those around me. All I have are Mexican Chinese fusion

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't care for sushi either - I prefer standard white rice, and I’m just not big on seafood.

2 weeks ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Sushi is any dish prepared with vinegared rice. There are a lot of vegan sushi options, like avocado or cucumber rolls. Or shiitake nigiri with mushrooms

2 weeks ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

A place where I used to live had an AAC Roll (avocado, asparagus, and cucumber). It was so good. Also one of the cheapest rolls on the menu.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Kapa maki - cucumber rolls - with wasabi is my favorite.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Then get steamed rice and make lil balls of it, way cheaper

2 weeks ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Or just use it as a marinade, its one of my favorites. Use just a little unless you want to taste the soy sauce, which sounds like the move for this person

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

onigiri is still amazing!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

don't forget the salt!

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

they're gonna dip it in soy sauce dude

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

More salt.
