Hi! I'm AdorkaStock. I photograph myself and others in various poses for art reference. My goal is to include in my galleries of stock poses a variety of body types, skin types, and people doing various things so there is a piece of stock for everyone. I want to share my stock, which is free to use for reference, with as many people as possible in case they need it! FAQ is in my bio.

Hope this pose helps you! Happy drawing!

Legit was building a tattoo idea and this is the closest picture I could find on the internet to the pose in my head. Ty.

These supposedly-for-reference photos have gone so far off the rails, they're basically unusable. For example in this one, it's "person jumping with a stick" not "person levitating holding a staff".

Most of the poses are clearly unnatural in posture and expression, and anyone using these as a reference will translate that unnatural look into their art.

This is an especially odd one, as you all have done plenty of shoots in a pool...

You used so many words just to say "I am not very creative."

The whole thing is ridiculous: 9 out of 10 models have bodies covered by fat, so there's no muscle definition to show. Maybe Rubens or Botero could use these references.

Bro. You're a dickhead. Shut the fuck up.

1) This is before I had access to underwater photography
2) every time someone tells me a pose reference is unusable people use it and prove that incorrect
3) if you can't think of any way that a stiff levitating pose could be used in art, I can't help you
4) it's actually possible to see something you don't like on the internet and just move on

If you don't like unflattering comments, don't post stuff on the internet. We all have the right to express our opinions here, and it's in more in focus here than e.g. on Tumbler.

1) Ah, OK.
2) Their art is probably compromised as a result of that usage then.
3) This isn't stiff levitation, there's obvious motion in the reference. The hair for example.
4) It's also possible to take feedback, and not get overly upset.

And I'm sure some will have (or express) the thought that I don't know what I'm talking about, or "why don't you do it yourself, then?" - I'm more into macro and wildlife photography, human subjects aren't what I do - I AM starting to get into sports photography though.

That's cool. I hope it goes really well for you

an artist can account for any shortcomings from any reference if they want to. No pose reference I make is required to be used directly as is, it's an information point for people to work from with other sources if they choose.

"This is basically unusable" is not feedback and I haven't asked for constructive criticism. Particularly since this photo is nearly a decade old.

Do I seem overly upset to you? That's interesting

Imgur's comment section has severe limitations for what feedback can be given. Artists can compensate, but not when a reference photo isn't close to what it's presented as.

This has clear motion, muscle strain, tension, and at least implied motion (I parse it as movement forward, the jump wasn't vertical). A reference in suspension rather than jumping would lead to a more natural levitation look. The head angle also feels compromised due to the arc enforced by the jump.

Out of characters.

Are you even an artist? What artist looks for references of a pose by name and uses the reference exactly as is? Then uses that as their ONLY reference? Someone could look at this and think "Oh I like that hand pose I'll use that" or "I'll use the positioning of the upper body and find a different reference fort he lower body." Your nitpicking speaks more of your lack of creativity than the usabilty of this reference and of all the things to nitpick on your nitpick on what the pose is NAMED.

Again, didn't ask.

If you're not skilled enough to use this ref in conjunction with others to get the art you want, that's ok. I'm sure you'll get better with practice. ⭐
