Is this some form of "aggressive persuasion" on HODL shareholders for a hostile takeover 20th Century Vole?

Looks like vole's back on the menu, boys!

Ground squirrels in general regularly eat other animals though.

Squirrel are assholes… they routinely murder infant rabbits and raid bird nests… they just kill the baby rabbits and birds for the hell of it or to taste them… there is no actual eating being done. They frequently throw eggs out of nests too. Squirrels are a destructive nuisance because they have few actual predators to reduce their numbers and have abundant food sources thanks to humans, but above that that are assholes first and foremost.

Vole today, gone tomorrow. Nature's buffet: where predator and prey play musical chairs of survival.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not about the killing, but the message

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shall we release these squirrels in CEO meetings?

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's sad to see this happen all because the voles switched to a for-profit model for the squirrel healthcare system they controlled. Anyways.

As the prophecy foretold

Remember, all Mammals are omnivores

It's just that most of them choose one route or the other for convenience sake

When desperate they'll go the route they usually don't

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

But squirrels are just assholes, they don’t need to be desperate…

Related, "Predatory Squirrels" would make a great name for a rock band.

Opportunistic collaborative omnivores, like most creatures.
The ground squirrels in Idaho would work together to run the dogs till they were exhausted if you let them. Taking turns whistling from different burrows , running them back and forth between them.

8 months ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

It's more than that. They're not being opportunistic, they're exhibiting hunting behavior.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Let's go , ground squirrel dietary evolution. A natural shift for caloric density .

I'm going to have a talk with my squirrels who are currently living in harmony with the voles tearing up my lawn. That needs to change. Maybe I'll leave them with some delicious vole recipe literature to pique their interest... tableside guacavole, stringbean cassevole, volecano cake, toad in the vole.

Resource competition. One species may be struggling to adapt to some kind food scarcity. Thoughts?

8 months ago | Likes 172 Dislikes 3

My thought is that the grey squirrels have always been carnivorous in my area so this is just some bullshit to distract the masses or click bait. Like literally everyone I know already knows this shit and has my whole life.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's not rare for a squirrel to eat smaller rodents for some quick protein. Biting their heads off though? It's pretty clear they're sending a message. Squirrel mafia. It's a thing.

Cane toads come to mind...

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting term “income breeders”, I have heard similar about hummingbirds insofar as they will have a second nest and double the offspring every year if there is good enough weather/food-supply.

Squirrels are very opportunistic, seems logical.

(Don´t say it, don´t say it, don´t say it) Squirrel wars! ... damn

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would there be scarcity, the ecosystem is absolutely fine, stop asking!

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Something is wrong with the nuts.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The article suggests it is opportunistic because of the huge abundance of voles

8 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

We should start beheading billionaires for the same reason?

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Squirrels are eating voles. Resource competition maybe, but also what else can a squirrel predate on with similar success?

8 months ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

I remember maybe 20 years ago reading an article about how black squirrels teamed up and took down a dog to eat in Russia.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Bird nests, baby birds and eggs are an easy target for squirrels.

8 months ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

Wrong season for that currently, I'd think

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Birds as occasional opportunistic targets is also listed, but not observed on the same scale. Harder to see in trees vs a field, I'd imagine

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mice too sometimes

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The article is on ground squirrels. The birds are NA.
